"The Blessing Papers" by William Barnwell, © 1980
This story is an incredible sort of plot. It reads like one of the fantasy type stories, but it purports that it is here on Earth, in the future.
The cover is misleading: the hero and his lady friend, or is it the heroine and her gentleman friend, find and deal with the robot who is crucified. There is no robot in the story, but there is some notion of non-God created life, whatever that means. Also, the hero, there is no heroine, does have a lady friend, but they part ways before he comes to know the secret of this story. He is holding a bow, like that is his weapon of choice, but he never does do anything with a bow and arrow in this story.
The story is really pretty interesting. It tends to be a bit impossible in places, as these fantasy stories are. At first he is a child, but that is only for a chapter. The rest of the book is his growing away from his known life to one he was chosen for. In the end he is left doing what ever anyone would do to better life for everyone. It is kind of enigamic in that way: what did he learn and what was the purpose of the Blessing papers?
