I purchased this book after reading the item description, thinking it was going to be similar to a Dan Brown novel. However, it turns out that this book is all about vampires... This is not at all what I expected, and I wish that it had been mentioned in the description. It is kind of important. So if you're looking for an archeological mistery-thriller and you're not a big fan of vampires, stay away from this book. One last thing: the romantic "intrigue" between the 2 main characters triggered many eye-rolls... Give me a break! So cliché!

Initially the beginning had me hooked, it was well written until the vampires showed up! Maybe it is because I'm not really into vampires (didn't realize that was the story line)but I kept reading hoping it would improve.....it didn't. It seems that the two Humans must have fantastic stamina, bat bites, vampire bites, fighting, explosions etc all within a day and a half. Give me a break. Definitely not for me but I guess if you like that type of thing you might.

Interesting new series. What I missed the most compared from James Rollins other books is the amazing true facts on which the story was based that were added as an appendix at the end.

A silly, over-the-top vampire romp, featuring a steely-jawed soldier, a beautiful archaeologist, and an ordained vampire, and, oh, yeah, the Countess Elizabeth Bathory, who's getting a bit cliché already. Poorly researched--Hungarian is not a Slavic language, and there are no gospels among the Dead Sea Scrolls (the Woman of Learning is ill-informed). And Nazis? Really? The Undead for the brain dead, which include me, apparently.

I have been a fan on Rollins since the beginning and was a little disconcerted with a collaboration, however Rebecca Cantrell brings much to this book.
