Book Description

Oct 16 2012 A Scarpetta Novel (Book 20)
A woman has vanished while digging a dinosaur bone bed in the remote wilderness of Canada. Somehow, the only evidence has made its way to the inbox of Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta, over two thousand miles away in Boston. She has no idea why. But as events unfold with alarming speed, Scarpetta begins to suspect that the paleontologist’s disappearance is connected to a series of crimes much closer to home: a gruesome murder, inexplicable tortures, and trace evidence from the last living creatures of the dinosaur age.

When she turns to those around her, Scarpetta finds that the danger and suspicion have penetrated even her closest circles. Her niece Lucy speaks in riddles. Her lead investigator, Pete Marino, and FBI forensic psychologist and husband, Benton Wesley, have secrets of their own. Feeling alone and betrayed, Scarpetta is tempted by someone from her past as she tracks a killer both cunning and cruel.

This is Kay Scarpetta as you have never seen her before. The Bone Bed is a must read for any fan of this series, or an ideal starting point for new readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars WHERE, OH WHERE HAS SCARPETTA GONE?? Nov 15 2012
By little lady blue TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
I keep hoping for vintage Scarpetta to resurface, but that is not to be it seems.

Evidenced here is a mish-mash of dysfunctional relationships between Scarpetta & all those closest to her. I hate that Benton has been made to appear like a mere appendage. Scarpetta is acting like a victim, really, in her position, this so unlikely & unattractive.

She has made all her characters so horribly jaded & unpleasant it's hard to digest. It's impossible to feel the slightest connection with any of them anymore.

I found the murder mystery story line interesting up to a point & then was completely flabbergasted at the end. All I could think was `HUH?" What a let down. It made absolutely no sense.

Having been so taken with Dr. Kay Scarpetta from the very beginning I am sad to see the series disintegrate into this shambles. Having said that, this novel is much better than the last 2 or 3 or 4 but then, that's not saying much.

While Patricia Cornwells's books are a little formulaic in nature I still enjoy reading them. Once again we are presented with suspicious deaths and we join Kay Scarpetta in her journey to help solve the mystery surrounding these deaths. I like the character of Kay and also enjoy her retinue of associates. If you are a fan of Patricia Cornmell you are on for another good read. I have read very one of her Kay
Scarpetta novels and will continue to read new one as it becomes available. Enjoy!
