Review

"These techniques will not mention any religious ritual. No temple is needed, you are quite enough of a temple yourself. You are the lab; the whole experiment is to go on within you. This is not religion, this is science. No belief is needed. Only a daringness to experiment is enough; courage to experiment is enough.

These 112 methods are for the whole of humanity-for all the ages that have passed, and for all the ages that have yet to come. I will go on describing each method from as many angles as possible. If you feel any affinity with it, play with it for three days. If you feel that it fits, that something clicks in you, continue it for three months.

Life is a miracle. If you have not known its mystery, that only shows that you do not know the technique for how to approach it." --Osho

Product Description

In this comprehensive and practical guide, the secrets of the ancient science of Tantra become available to a contemporary audience for the first time. Confined to small, hidden mystery schools for centuries, and often misunderstood and misinterpreted today. Tantra is not just a collection of techniques to enhance sexual experience. As Osho shows in these pages, it is a complete science of self-realizatoin, based on the cumulative wisdom of centuries of exploration into the meaning of life and consciousness. Tantra-the very word means "technique"-is a set of powerful, transformative tools that can be used to bring new meaning andjoy to every aspect of our daily lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate in Understanding the Most Misunderstood Topic - Tantra, Sep 13 2010
This review is from: The Book of Secrets: 112 Meditations to Discover the Mystery Within (Hardcover)
Osho has been the most misunderstood man in India. Most of the people in India don't even want to be associated with him, directly or indirectly. Yet in India's Parliament he is the only 2nd author (other is, of course, Gandhi) whose all work [books, lectures, videos] are available. I have read and listened to this work [Vigyan Bhairav Tantra] many times and to my surprise every time I learned something new. Every revision gives reader a kind of push to achieve something higher and bigger than before. He pushed your imagination beyond unexpected and leads you from darkness to light. A great Master that India ignored but still loved by millions all over the world long after he left this planet.
Each technique is unique and nicely explained. Probably the best anybody could explain. There is something for everybody in this book. For the first time meditation and tantra have not been associated with religion and tantra is explained as "a technique" not owned by one religion or person. He explains each technique as if Shiva is explaining it in first hand to Parvati. Only one word can explain the whole experience of reading this book - AWSOME. Words fall short in explaining the Master and his work.
Lead us from darkness to light. May these religions disappear from this world and good sense prevails on the minds of most destructive of all the creatures, the human beings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instrument of liberation, Nov 6 2011
This review is from: The Book of Secrets: 112 Meditations to Discover the Mystery Within (Hardcover)
There are many different philosophies and currents of religious thoughts in this world. But most of them affect only a superficial layer of our mind, making us a little more cultured on the surface at best. This book offers tools, practical tools of first changing the mind and then totally transcending it. What will it give you, what will be the practical result? I don't know it yet. But all those who'd followed the path of yoga, or tantra, or meditation to the end say that there is no greater achievement possible in the whole world, although to reach that goal you'll have to travel alone across many deserts of your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage wine, new bottle, Sep 19 2010
By J. Thomas "fyreflye" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Book of Secrets: 112 Meditations to Discover the Mystery Within (Hardcover)
If you already own the original edition The Book of Secrets: 112 Keys to the Mystery Within of this classic you may choose not to buy this new 2010 reissue. It does have a sturdier binding than the original, some passages have been edited for greater clarity, and there's a DVD with a talk by Osho bound in the back. If on the other hand you actually treasure as I do this collection of Osho's commentaries on the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, your original copy will have come apart from rereadings and annotations and you'll be in need of this fresh new orange cover edition. Those new to Osho but ready for a deep plunge into his teachings on meditation will find no better introduction than these talks from his early years as a teacher. Most of the paperback compilations issued in recent years by Osho International have been edited to muffle his unique voice; the real Osho can be encountered here in this volume and on the accompanying DVD. If you think Osho was just some kind of fake guru who owned hundreds of Rolls Royces and whose message was sex orgies for all, much evidence to the contrary is here in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars New 2010 Edition with DVD, Oct 25 2010

This review is from: The Book of Secrets: 112 Meditations to Discover the Mystery Within (Hardcover)
The Book of Secrets by Osho is available in print since 35 years and was the first book by him which was published by Western publishing houses. In 80 of his daily talks Osho unlocks here secrets of 112 ancient meditation methods and brings them into a contemporary understanding - free from any religious context as methods to grow in awareness. You will find here the detailed introduction to each method and also follow up questions from his audience which deepen the understanding. The book has been published in many formats and again in 2010 the book appears in a new cover and more readable format. St. Martin's Press added this time a DVD with a complete 2 hour talk by Osho in which he responds to the question "What is Meditation?". This DVD is a fascinating experience to see a mystic in action. Osho takes us through a very detailed, almost scientific, yet very light and humorous process of introducing us to meditation.

I can highly recommend this book and DVD to anyone interested in this subject area.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great book, but be careful., Jan 2 2012

This review is from: The Book of Secrets: 112 Meditations to Discover the Mystery Within (Hardcover)
What can I say? This book was both very helpful to me... And very harmful.

After reading this and a few of Osho's other books I became completely in love with the man, his words, everything about him. I considered myself a total Osho devotee. That caused some problems though.

Understand this, the belief that Osho is a divine man, your master, whatever you want to call him is a belief that is just as harmful as any other. Osho's former commune has now been turned into a huge money making operation, offering every trash kind of therapy on the face of the earth. They treat this man as if he was a god. He said many beautiful things but he was in fact extremely egotistical. He had his picture everywhere, was addicted to Nitrous Oxide (which he admitted), and even used to ask women to strip naked so he that he could "see their chakra levels".

If it hurts when I say things against your "master", I understand how you feel. I used to feel that way too. Just please, never think of Osho as anything higher than yourself. Realize that deep down, Bhagwan has brainwashed you. Wake up.

Trust yourself, and you can become enlightened,

Put all your trust in Osho, and it will only be a barrier,

So sure, read his books.
But don't become obsessed and think of him as some great godly human. He was just a very cunning old man.
