The Fifth Dimension is just a Motown musical group,

This review is from: The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life (Audio CD)
Another in a long line of pseudo-spiritual "feel good" type self-help books. While better than most, the common theme it to exploit individual's difficulties, citing what we really need is "spirituality"...Maybe, or maybe not, but much of the book is really about common sense approaches mental health wrapped in spiritual jargin. The rest of the book gets into abstract new age-type concepts that are again, meant to make us feel good; to lessen our fears of death, being alone, chaos, meaninglessness, etc. At least religions tend to avoid the strictly feel-good approach of this type of pop-spirituality book. There are many better Christian, Jewish, Bhuddist, Muslim based books that, while more challenging and less "feel good", at least have a solid tradition and belief system behind them - like them or not. Wishy washy new age nonsense causes more suffering than it remedies.

Concider Parenting Well as a hidden dimension.,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life (Hardcover)
This book has been well reviewed. There is little left to offer that might be meaningful. However, I am a family therapist and a parent. I like Chopra's work, however, for parents and parenting the connections might be hard to grasp. Many people I see in my office consider seeing their children succeed as a big part of fulfilling their dreams. The The Book of Secrets cannot hurt this endeavor, however, I usually recommend a book entitled "Systemic Parenting: An Exploration of the Parenting Big Picture" (Gaskill). This might be a good adjunct to Chopra's work. It definitely will be helpful to parents wanting success in this domain of their living.

A few quibbles spoil it for me,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life (Hardcover)
While Dr. Chopra may offer guidance in popular philosophy, he spoils it for me by not being quite accurate in some of his analogies. His statement that "Our cells are fueled by the sam oxygen and glucose that fueled amoebas two billon years ago ... ." stretches my credibility. I recall reading that, two billon years ago, the earth did not yet have an oxygen atmosphere. So I must seriously question Dr. Chopra's statement. If I cannot trust the accuracy of his writing about a published scientific paradigm, I hesitate to trust it in the realm of philosophy.
