A cult phenomenon returns with The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. The vigilante MacManus brothers (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus, reprising their roles from the first movie) have retired to Ireland, but a copycat killing of a Boston priest brings them back to dish out their unique brand of quasi-spiritual justice. The story line doesn't differ much from the first movie; the brothers have a new sidekick (Clifton Collins Jr., Capote) and a new pursuer, FBI agent Eunice Bloom (Julie Benz of Dexter, striving to take the place of Willem Dafoe from the original), but it's basically a series of shootouts in which the brothers pop up "unexpectedly" and blast a bunch of cartoonish criminals to pieces. The Boondock Saints was not a good movie, but it had a weird, unique energy--you couldn't tell if the movie took itself so seriously that it was ludicrous or if it was mocking itself while reveling in its absurd extravagances. All Saints Day has the same ridiculous swagger and baroque macho dialogue, but this time the spark is missing (with the exception of Collins, who brings all his dependable live-wire energy). Some cult fans will be disappointed, but others will still find things to enjoy. Also featuring Scottish comedian Billy Connolly (reprising his role as the elder MacManus), Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), and Peter Fonda (Easy Rider). --Bret Fetzer

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the plague April 16 2010
Format:DVD
Easily one of the worst movies of all time. If you liked the first movie, which was awesome, do yourself a favor and avoid this one at all costs or it will tarnish your memories of the first one. This movie was made for the lowest common denominator of human intelligence. Seriously and I don't mean to sound like a know it all smarty pants, because I'm not, but this movie is probably akin to being "The Godfather" for anyone living in a trailer park. I hate this movie and don't want a single other person, intelligent or not to waste their time on this complete mess.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a good as the first Saints Jan. 5 2014

If you are fans of the McMurphy brothers as well as flandus fans it is a must add to the library. I did not enjoy this one as much and will have to watch it again to see if I can. Did not care for the woman FBI but then again, I am a Willem Defoe fan all the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars BOONDOCK SAINTS! Oct. 30 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I loved The Boondock Saints, so it's natural that I would watch this one and I have to say I didn't love it as much as the original (sequels aren't usually that good), but I still loved it and seeing the characters again!

I'm not a huge fan of sequels, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. The bad Irish accents carry through from the first movie but there's still lots of action and humour to enjoy.

Had to have it on blue ray. I like this one better then the first. The boys are awesome and the Fed is really hot. Cult classic for sure. I hope they do a saints three where Norman uses a cross bow.
