The Border Guide is the definitive guide to cross-border financial planning for who either live in the U.S. seasonally or all year round. It also includes useful information for U.S. citizens living or just investing in Canada. Many Canadians incorrectly assume that the laws governing investment, taxation, and immigration are the same in the U.S. as they are in Canada. This easy-tofollow guide can help anyone transact their crossborder business affairs with confidence. - Avoid getting caught by fluctuations in Canadian currency - Qualify for old-age and social security benefits on both sides of the border - Get the best from both the Canadian and U.S. medical systems - Buy a retirement home and deduct the mortgage interest from your Canadian tax return - Receive your Canadian pensions in the U.S.-almost tax free! This updated edition includes extensive new information on the Canada/U.S. Tax Treaty, new border issues since 9/11, and many small regulatory changes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Border Guide July 18 2010
This is the best book I've read for Canadians working, vacationing, retiring, or whatever accross the border in the USA. It is clear and concise. It covers most of the topics needed. It provides references to Government forms and white papers that are of interest. It also covers issues of concern for Americans crossing the border into Canada. Highly recomended.

The example forms are helpful. The case studies get you thinking about questions you haven't asked yet.

Anyone considering buying a investment / retirement property south of the border, especially if considering renting. This book should answer almost all questions and inform you how to handle the tax issues .
