Pulls you in despite many flaws,
By
This review is from: The Bourne Ultimatum (Mass Market Paperback)
Flaws included excessive italics, which attempt to manufacture emotion in lieu of believable and three dimensional characters - very annoying. Also, the story is essentially Bourne v the Jackal in a variety of bloodbaths which carries on for a long time until the final resolution.Frankly, compared to Identity & Supremacy, this book was a little lazy and predictable. The only question was which improbable geographical locale the final confrontation would take place. However, Ludlum didn't sell lots of books for being a completely incompetent writer. Here he ably pulls you into his story, even though there are all kinds of reasons it shouldn't work. For that you must give credit where credit is due. Oh yes, this book has nothing to do with the movie. There's no way you could make a good movie out of this, so its good the whole story arc and plot was changed.

Third in the series,

This review is from: The Bourne Ultimatum (Mass Market Paperback)
Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne series is once again in the news, this time because of the current movie. He ends this third in the series on a great note, too, for I felt that the first book especially was a little "off." This is a must read for anyone interested in the spy/thriller genre. Would also recommend a COMPLETELY different type of book, but still a really, really great story: THE BARK OF THE DOGWOOD.

Too much of a good thing,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bourne Ultimatum (Mass Market Paperback)
The first two (Identity, Legacy) are beautiful page-turners. However, in the third installment, the Jason Bourne vs. David Webb struggle becomes a dead horse. You can only carry that split so far in a plot line before the man either must end up in an insane asylum, or integrate the pieces and move on. While a desparately wanted the saga to continue, I would rather not have seen it end with this book.
