After reading the first book in the series "The Hope Of Refuge" back in 2009 I waited patiently for the second book in the series. When I seen it for review I jumped at the chance to read it and was not in the least disappointed in it.
One will find the same characters in book two as was in the first .With the first book the main emphasis focused on Cara and as we see in book two of the series the main focus is on Lena the 27 year old teacher who has since birth been plagued with a horrible birthmark on her face. Lena who has always been outspoken is now having problems not only with a student but the school board as well. When the death of a best friend she consults her English friend to help council the children .This is the final straw that helps the school board make their decision.
Being drawn to a childhood friend Grey Graber after the death of his wife Lena has strong feelings for him but does Grey feel anything towards her. Always thought of as his best friends sister, she has been more like family than a romantic prospect.
As we follow along with Cara as she tries to leave her English way and convert to the Amish life style, Deborah as she has to make a decision between Jonathon or Mahlon, and Lena's father as he is bent on courting Ada, the reader is transferred back to the Amish country and the simple life style. As jokes are being pulled on each other we can see that they still have fun, they are not all sober and quiet and they do misbehave at times.. With a touch of suspense to the story line one will find the book hard to put down .
I have nothing but high praise for Cindy Woodsmall's books. She grabs you attention and can keep the reader spellbound throughout. Her characters have a way of wrapping their selves around your heart and taking you on the same emotional journey with them. This is a beautiful story of love and redemption, faith and forgiveness. If you have never read any of Ms. Woodsmalls books yet I highly recommend them all. I will now wait patiently for book #3 in the series to come out.
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group through their blogging program. A positive review was not required and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own view of the book.

Another great story for the Ada's House Series, Aug 26 2011

This review is from: The Bridge of Peace: Book 2 in the Ada's House Amish Romance Series (Paperback)
I have enjoyed reading all of Cindy Woodsmalls books that I can get my hands on and The Bridge of Peace is no exception. This book is the second book in the Ada's House series; it follows The Hope of Refuge, which I also read. I personally think this book would be hard to read as a stand-alone because throughout the book the author re-visits the characters from the previous book to let us know what is going on with them to and mix them together with the current characters!! Plus I think that book one was amazing so there is no reason not read it first!
The Bridge of Peace is a wonderful story about discovering who you are and what you believe and not defining yourself by the world. There is Lena, a young spunky Amish teacher who is in love with her job and her children even though there is often days when she goes home saddened by the words of one child specifically. She faces all kinds of obstacles as a teacher and she becomes in danger of losing her job. Her old friend Gray seems to be the only one on the school board who understands Lena and tries to defend her. However, Gray faces some enormous tragedy and is suddenly dealing with his own struggles.
I really liked Lena's character!! She is such a strong and passionate young woman. Through all the obstacles in her life she never lets that discourage her from what she believes is right for the people in her life, especially the children. She has strong faith that she will survive anything and that she can make a difference in the world, both are attributes I highly admire!
One of my favorite things about Cindy Woodsmalls writing is that she has this amazing ability to write stories that completely absorb you, you are 100% invested in these characters and their lives and you are still thinking of them days after you finish the book. I love that she has woven in the main characters from book one of this series in to this story so we can keep updated with their lives!
If you love Amish fiction you will love this series and this book! Anyone who enjoys Amish or romance with a bit of suspense and mystery will enjoy The Bridge of Peace.

Somewhat of a disappointment, Oct 6 2010

This review is from: The Bridge of Peace: Book 2 in the Ada's House Amish Romance Series (Paperback)
Because I have become such a fan of Cindy Woodsmall, I was on the pre-order list for the arrival of "Bridge of Peace". Couldn't wait. Am I the only one who thinks that Ms. Woodsmall got in a huge hurry in the last half of the book - and carelessly and quickly tried to tie all of the loose ends together?
I am glad that the characters from the first book were present in this book, but SO little time had passed in their story, that I was not really ready to move on to Lena's romance, and Mahlon's return (a real jerk, who by the way, should have been ignored at first sight - if he wouldn't show himself to his mother... what kind of a man is he, anyway? His behavior is abnormal.) Two incidents left me thinking, "huh"? . . . One was Deborah's treatment of Jonathan when Mahlon showed up.. and the other was the two page introduction of Cara's father. (What was THAT all about?)
Like a previous reviewer, I never could understand the Dwayne thing - and how this psychopath had the school board eating out of his hand. It was SO frustrating when they believed him, and pulled the rug out from under Lena. Was Dwayne really Amish? This is probably the first Amish fiction book that didn't leave me wishing I could live like that.
Way too many characters, mostly left undeveloped. The Israel/Ada romance held promise, but there just wasn't room enough in this book for much of their story. This would have been a much more natural transition from Book One than Lena and Grey.
Lena's obsession with her birthmark didn't fit a BIT with her concern for others, and her prank playing.
Things and people that I LOVE in this series: Ephraim...(Does such a man exist on the planet? I certainly hope so) Ada.....who seems to be focused on helping other people, and moving on from her disappointments. Lori - who seems to be a very normal, happy, and well-adjusted little girl - considering all that she endured with her mother's stuff. Jonathan . . . for all the reasons that I love Ephraim.
There were so many characters that were peripheral and unnecessary - (Christian, for example) and I hope that in future books, they will be explained, or eliminated. I do look forward to book Three, but it is going to take a huge series to get this story finished. I think that Cindy Woodsmall is a gifted writer, but she got a bit off track with this one. I also hope that we won't have to wait as long for the continuation of the story as we usually have to wait for her sequels. I will buy and read - and enjoy, I am sure.
