5.0 out of 5 stars Lisa knows Brownies, Feb 18 2011
This review is from: The Brownie Lover's Bible: Over 100 Delicious Recipes (Paperback)
This woman knows how to bake brownies. She hasn't left out any details. I learned that I've been mislead into baking them at a higher temperature than I should. So far I've made her Classic Brownie with Chocolate Glaze and some of the comments I've received are that they are the "most chocolatiest brownies ever". I didn't even have great quality chocolate at the time and made them with bakers chocolate and they turned out fabulous! A really big hit. Can't wait to make others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yummy but a bit complex, May 25 2009
By N. Sumstine "Queenread" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Brownie Lover's Bible: Over 100 Delicious Recipes (Paperback)
This cookbook has the most wonderful decadent recipes. The simplest brownie recipe results in the fudgiest brownies ever. "The Moosewood Restaurant Cooks in Minutes" had my favorite brownie recipe, which could be anything from fudgey to cakey depending on the time in the oven. The easy recipe in The Brownie Lover's Bible has more eggs, more chocolate and recommends a super simple but wonderful ganache to top it.

Some of the recipes are No-flour brownies, Cocoa Brownies, No bake brownies as well as a few different versions of basic brownies. The basic recipes are followed by the gourmet or gift brownies.

The simple recipes are building blocks for more complicated and decadent recipes such as Jackson Pollack Bars (hazelnuts, coconut, ginger, almonds, caramel butterscotch sauce and ganache are added) and the snickers-like Peanut Caramel brownies. These more complicated recipes refer to often several steps of building-block recipes. Time consuming, but for a special occasion or gift worth it.

For those of us who need to short-cut a bit, some of the recipes can be simplified with really good quality store-bought substitutes, (I am thinking specifically of the Caramel Butterscotch sauce).
One thing to remember when buying some of the rather expensive ingredients is that a good dark chocolate bar like Hershey's Special Dark can be substituted for bittersweet chocolate, which is expensive.

I checked out the book from my library but am planning to buy it. What I am calling the building block recipes are worth the price of the book. The versatility of these recipes inspire creativity beyond the combinations put together in the book.

This is a great book for anyone who likes to bake or experiment in the kitchen. I like things a bit easier (too busy!) so I'm giving it four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best fudgy brownie recipe ever, Mar 22 2012

I have been looking for a great fudgy brownie recipe for years. The Browned Butter Brownie recipe in this book (sorry, I am away from my book so I am not 100% sure that is the name, but Browned Butter is in there somewhere) is the best brownie I have ever had. It takes a little extra time to brown the butter but it changes the brownie into something utterly sublime. I tried one other recipe before this one and it was good, but since trying the browned butter one, I haven't tried any others. Why mess with perfection?

I loved the instructions on how to make the edges straight, too. The "ends" stay home even if the rest of the brownies go out the door.
