Review

“Nothing escapes Montreal native Huberman’s scorn.” -- Globe & Mail, May 29, 2004

Book Description

The Bush-Haters Handbook is a godsend to those looking for a concise, mordantly entertaining overview of the Bush record from a liberal perspective, or those who want to arm themselves with talking points, facts, and figures for debates with conservatives, and at those seeking the perfect holiday gift book for that certain, special Bush-hater in their lives—or for a Bush-lover they hope to rescue from the outer darkness. Summarizing, detailing, and bewailing all of the more important Bush administration outrages, and some of the more trivial ones, this book is the brainchild of Jack Huberman, a former Canadian who took up U.S. citizenship just so he could vote against Dubya in 2000. Topics range from abortion, AIDS, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and Ashcroft, to women and workplace safety. Other major topics include budget and taxes, civil liberties, death penalty, defense spending, education, environment, gun control, health care, homeland security, Iraq, judicial nominations, "nucular" weapons, patients' rights, privacy, public land, September 11 and the war on terror, and social security. In between are a variety of smaller topics, such as Bush's language abilities (featuring a selection of priceless Bushisms). The pages are also enlivened by sidebars, "boxed" lists, and political cartoons.

4.0 out of 5 stars good general beginning--now follow up with detailed sources, Mar 16 2004
This review is from: The Bush-Haters Handbook: A Guide to the Most Appalling Presidency Of the Past 100 Years (Paperback)
Being no fan of bush, I picked this book up expecting the usual jokes and puns. They are in here, but this book, as another reviewer described it, is a good beginning perspective on the worst occupant in the white house ever. It is organized very well, especially for finding quick facts. Yes it is written for those who have a biased against bush; it only confirms our beliefs and organizes our knowledge into an accessible medium. obvously, his supporters, as always, will completely lambast this book without reading it or being open minded to an alternative voice.
in essence, this short, easily-read book is a great beginning to do research on bush (notice how i refuse to call him president? it would be an oxymoron). it delves, but not too deeply, into his blunders before his occupation began in 2000. Next, it also shows the intentional mistakes that he has made since then, all with alarming speed.
to sum up, it gets points for its accessibility, clarity, and use as a general source for more detailed research (say for example if you want to learn more about bush's opposition to abortion rights, it can point you in the right direction.)
yet, it loses points because of the name: the title will turn off the people that need to read it the most. vote anybody but bush 2004

3.0 out of 5 stars Handy Reference Work, Feb 25 2004
This review is from: The Bush-Haters Handbook: A Guide to the Most Appalling Presidency Of the Past 100 Years (Paperback)
A morbidly fascinating examination of the Bush Administration's many outrageous atrocities to date, THE BUSH-HATER'S HANDBOOK is a worthy, quick-read reference book filled with a surplus of well researched and detailed information about our most atrocious President ever. Jack Huberman has provided quite a handy source of facts and figures for anyone caught in the middle of an argument with a deluded Bush apologist. While it is far from the best of its kind - THE BOOK ON BUSH by Eric Alterman and Mark Green and BUSHWHACKED by Molly Ivins quickly come to mind as far superior and much more enlightening works - THE BUSH-HATER'S HANDBOOK is an acceptable starting point for anyone who has only recently been able to see through the conservative-controlled media's deliberate misinformation about (and continual protection of) our infuriatingly incompetent "leader."

5.0 out of 5 stars Bush makes Jesus Cry, July 15 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bush-Haters Handbook: A Guide to the Most Appalling Presidency Of the Past 100 Years (Paperback)
When I read what the "reader from Portland Area, OR" had to say I could only shake my head in sadness. To say that a cheat, a documented liar and convicted felon "follows" or "knows" Christ is just bizarre. I think he/she is very typical of the average Bush supporter. They have a very distorted view of the world and what Jesus is all about. I truly wish God would come back and rid of us of ignorance and the people that spread such hatred for those that don't "believe" as they do.

Let's all pray that these ultra-right wing conservative Christians figure out that the bible was not written by God, but by men, like Bush, that twisted God's words with each translation in order to keep control over their people.

The God I as well as many other Christians pray to does not support such hatred and discrimination. He loves all and forgives all. Even ultra-conservative, ignorant white trash ;-)
