3.0 out of 5 stars "A very typical Gothic novel" Nov 6 2007
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Not very remarkable or original as Gothic novels go, but the narrative was unusually simple compared to some Gothic novels (such as THE CAVE OF ST. MARGARET) that have so many subplots, when trying to explain them to someone else, one finds oneself unable to keep track of the storyline. The superstitious Aunt who is nearly burned at the stake and rescued by the valiant hero was wonderfully romantic, but very common in feminine Gothic writing. However, the novel does make good the introduction's claim that Jane Harvey's characters had "little or no depth."
