Look! Look! The Cat wants to cook!

Told with simple rhymes and rhythms, this jaunty illustrated tale gives very young readers a taste of the Cat in the Hat’s flamboyant cooking skills as he slaps on a Chef’s hat and whips up purple cupcakes using some truly odd ingredients! A cat-terrific spin-off based on Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat movie.

I just bought this book for my 5 year old daughter who is just learning how to read . It has nice easy words for her to sound out and she is very excited that she is able to read it . It has very bright and colorful pictures that are nice to look at.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quick! Find anything that rhymes and put it in the book. Aug 23 2010
By K. Ferguson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I didn't like this book at all. The only positive thing about it is the repetition. My kids learned the words because they see them over and over in the book, but the book itself is poorly written. The story started to get vague by page 9, "Which tin will win?" My son wanted to know what the tins were competing for. By the time we got to page 14, the sentences were short and didn't make much sense to the kids. Page 15 was too confusing to explain to a 3 and 5 year old --->"Hot shot into the pot. A pot shot! (Not so hot!)". Long story short,my 5-year old wanted to know what a pot had to do with a pot shot (since the book was about cooking)and why it is called POT shot if you don't use a real pot in the process...sigh. Writing books in rhyme is not easy, and this book is a good example of when a writer tries to make something work no matter what. The rhymes are there but the story just becomes too abstract for level 1 readers to catch on by themselves. My 5 and 3 year old can read other level 1 books on their own and actually understand the stories. This book is just a flop.

5.0 out of 5 stars silly little book Aug 30 2010

No, it doesn't always make sense, as some reviewers pointed out. But does it need to? It's the Cat in the Hat; it's supposed to be silly and nonsensical. My almost-5-year-old thought it was funny (though he likes silly things that don't necessarily make sense). It's simple enough that he can read it by himself with just a little help from me on some harder words.

Cute book; goofy kids will like it. Those who want to understand and make sense of everything, probably won't.
