"Trying to control isn't the answer. When we find the true `God Experience', the fight over whose religion is best--it fades. There's just one truth." - From the movie

A New York Times best-selling book published in 1993, The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield has sold 14 million copies and has been translated in over 45 languages. Written in novel form, The Celestine Prophecy describes the synchronistic adventures of John Woodson as he travels to Peru to find out more about an ancient prophecy that describes modern life in startling detail--as well as the future evolutionary path of humanity. While there, he meets up with Father Jose, guardian of the scrolls, as well as others who are dedicated to disseminating the transformative nine Insights found in the Celestine Prophecy.

Redfield had wanted to make a movie version of The Celestine Prophecy, but despite offers from several big studios, the timing didn't feel right. In the spirit of the book, which advocates following intuition and gut hunches towards a more aware, purposeful life, Redfield waited--and now the time has come for the film to be birthed into the world.

After seeing the Indigo movie debacle and the mediocre acting in What the Bleep Do We Know!?, I admit that I didn't hold much hope for the movie version of The Celestine Prophecy. However, after watching the film and its special features last night, I was surprised and delighted at the results.

The Celestine Prophecy was one of the first "New Age" books I read while in the process of coming out of organized religion as both an adherent and a minister. It's been years since I read it, but I remembered that the prose was a bit clunky and didactic, but the information on synchronicity, auras, and control dramas were spiritual gold.

A great movie, and one that I recommend to my students. A compelling story that teaches you to see energy. This movie is a gem.

If you are looking for more understanding about your existence on earth, if you are trying to understand some unusual events that have happened to you, if you feel there is more to our world than you see, this movie is worth a watch. It is not Hollywood quality, but good. While the story is not overly strong, the message is worth the time to watch.

Yes some of the special effects are a bit cheesy but this movie is one for the heart and soul. It will make you beam from the inside out with its powerful message of what humanity is capable of becoming if we just follow our own heart.

Borrowed a copy from a friend once and just had to have my own copy. It really illustrates well the awakening times we are in. Very well done. Thank you.

This is a somewhat embarrassingly corny 1'-hour, 'hero(in)es vs. villains' type of movie that tries to portray '
- the potential synergy of spiritual energy in all of us,
- that by being spiritually connected we can be protected from 'evil',
- that spiritually inclined people may have 'synchronicity' with each other (i.e. be brought together at the right moments by divine intervention),
- that heaven & hell are nowhere else except here on earth,
- and that we, as humans, have an evolutionary higher purpose in the universe.

If I didn't know that what was being portrayed in the movie is conceptually feasible, I would have given it only a 1 star rating for the mediocre acting and poor plot alone.

The problem with attempts to portray ethereal matters visually is that ethereal matters are simply not apparent in the material world and only reflect in our subjective perceptions of them. Spiritual phenomena are subliminal in most people, and the visual portrayal of spiritual perception in this movie would be unreal for anyone having spiritual perception. But hey, it's only a movie, and it could possibly stimulate novice spiritual aspirants to seek 'the light' in some way or other.

I would give it 6 stars for bringing to the attention of audiences the possibilities of enlightenment by spiritual endeavour, which is a difficult yet admirable attempt by the movie makers, but minus 4 stars for the poor plot and mediocre acting of the main actors. (Only the movie's army General gave a convincing performance). I haven't read any of the books on which the movie is based, so I have not compared the movie with the books.
