Brendan Burchard is a great leader and thought provoker in the world of self development. He has brilliant ideas on becoming the most you possible can, and enjoying life in the process. It is a very logical and practical outline of the core values and principles that can spur on the greatest years of our matter what the age. I would have liked to see some more on "faith" and belief systems, but other than that, it is a great book. Very good read.

Its very easy for us to just read the book and think we've applied it, but the fact of the matter is you'll see the value when you actually apply the stuff. For example, the planner that's been listed as a resource guide has completely changed the way I produce and create!

disappointment from a long time follower. May 27 2012
By Zachary Taylor - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I've been following almost everything Brendon Burchard has done for the past year. I think his work with Experts Academy and Total Product Blueprint are phenomenal.

That said, I am disappointed with The Charge. On the positive side, the 10 Drives are cool, and even cooler they all begin with "C." And his metaphor for the three kinds of lives we live: caged, comfortable, or charged was good too. I also want to give Brendon a lot of credit for his recovery from a traumatic brain injury during the writing of the book.

However, I feel this book could be about 5 pages long. I quite simply got bored with it. I usually give every book a fair shake but I could barely finish it. I'll admit I skimmed the last 1/3. It seemed he said a lot without saying much at all -- in other words most of the book felt like filler with very simple, common sense (at least in my mind) tips to live with more "vibrancy" like "go to see a play" and others I can't remember.

I am sure there are people out there who will like this, especially those who are just starting out with personal development literature. But I feel the hype for this was well-marketed hype and this book will fade as quickly as the marketing. This is not a book I will keep on my shelf for it didn't contain anything of lasting value for me.

I really support Brendon and his work, but this was not for me. Just one person's opinion among a lot of others who apparently loved it. My suggestion for Brendon (I know he reads these) is to stick with expert and internet marketing products -- that's really where you shine and shine well.

Is your life caged, comfortable or charged? May 22 2012
By Kathleen Gage - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Caged, comfortable, charged. These three words grabbed my attention the moment I began reading The Charge, Brendon Burchard's most recent book.

Although I do live what I would consider a relatively "charged" life, Brendon presents an interesting perspective to various areas of our lives; personal, professional, physical, spiritual and emotional are but a few of the many areas he asks the reader to evaluate.

From the first chapter to the last, Brendon challenges the reader to live a more impassioned life.

To get the most out of The Charge it is imperative the reader give it more than a cursory read through.

With each word I read I took a deep look at the areas of my life where I may not be fully Charged.

I do know I live a much more charged life than most. A quick trip to any mall or grocery store confirms this. My 23 year relationship that is deeply fulfilling, loving and passionate confirms this. My health being the best it has been in decades confirms this. The excitement I feel knowing I am contributing to my clients and customers lives in a positive way is yet another confirmation of this. The joy I feel every time I do my volunteer work at a local senior center again confirms my life is charged.

But digging deep reveals areas and times when I may not be as charged as I desire.

So what is The Charged Life. To fully understand The Charged Life it is beneficial to look at The Caged and The Comfortable Life.

The following definitions are directly out of The Charged Life book.

The Caged Life
People live their lives caged either in the past or in the expectations of others. Their identities are trapped in a tight box of beliefs about what is possible for them. They live a restricted life.

The Comfortable Life
Not as dire as the caged life. Through work, dedication, and fortunate circumstances many of us live what Brendon says is a "comfortable" life. We have houses, spouses, cars and kids. We feel engaged and thankful for our lives. We know we've made some trade-offs, a little less adventure here, a few more hours at the office there. All is okay. And then one day, someone asks about your life, and you are surprised to hear yourself reply, "Oh, things are... you know... fine?"

You ask yourself, "Is this what I really wanted? Is this all there is? Have I made too many trade offs? Am I living my life or someone else's?"

The Charged Life
The one living the caged life asks, "Will I survive"?"
The one living the comfortable life asks, "Will I be accepted and succeed?
The person living the charged life asks, "Am I living my truth and actualizing my potential? Am I living an inspired life and inspiring others?"

They live with purpose.

Chapter after chapter I reviewed my own life to determine if I feel I am living on purpose in all areas. Am I truly living an inspired life and inspiring others?

What I realized is this; in some areas I am completely charged. In others, I am comfortable. Nowhere do I feel caged.

Decades ago I definitely lived a caged life. I was among the ranks of those who merely existed, feeling a victim to the circumstances of life, stuck in a dead-end job, in a dead-end relationship, doing whatever I could to get through each day.

The cage slowly opened when I began immersing myself into books, mentors, audio programs and seminars that taught me there was more to life than what I was experiencing.

Although frightening at times, this allowed me the ability and awareness to move into a comfortable life with glimpses of what a charged life felt like.

With increased dedication to my personal and professional development I had more and more charged experiences.

Along the line I "got it" that to be fully charged the greatest development was to my spiritual side; my connection to Source.

Going from living an extremely caged life to a relatively charged life proved to me that miracles abound. But "relatively charged" is not fully charged.

As I finished Brendon's book I pondered what it would take for me to be fully charged, if not all the time, a great deal of the time.

First, make the decision to do so. Next, utilize the power questions Brendon posed throughout the book and at the end of each chapter. Then, realize that how "charged" I want to be is up to me.

No one gives us permission as to what level of passion, excitement, gratitude and joy we live at. It is an inside job. The externals are not the drivers of The Charged Life.

Will The Charge be the end all be all to your journey of self discovery. Not at all. No book, author or mentor has all the answers.

However, there are some that stand apart from the rest. Having read thousands of books over the last four decades, The Charge is among the handful that have impacted me at the level this one has.

"The Charged Life, the truly lived life, is not a routine existence in some quaint, picturesque village of safety and certainty. No, the life worth living is out there, in the wooded wilds of the unknown, on the craggy battlefields that test our wits and wills in the daily fights with our own demons."

What is the life you are living? Is it as Charged as you know it can be? I encourage you to get your own copy today.

THE CHARGE is different! May 15 2012
By Lisa Scolnick - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I've read a lot of books. THE CHARGE is different. Brendon connects with the reader by helping them understand where they are today - caged, comfortable or charged. Most are probably comfortable. After reading the 7 attributes, I wanted to be a "Charger!" At first, I thought, "Can he really lead me there through his book? That's quite a goal." Chapter by chapter, Brendon introduced new concepts and thought provoking questions that really made me think - some were really tough. These "Charge Points" helped me change my perspective and raise my aspirations. In the end, they've become my action plan that I'm implementing daily. After finishing the book, I re-read chapter one and couldn't believe my shift in mindset. The unattainable is now clear and within reach. I guess the answer to my original question is: "Yes, Brendon's book can lead me through the strategies to have a Charged Life!" Brendon's personal stories make him real, trustworthy and inspiring. I highly recommend this book to all the people you love. It's also a great book for young adults to get them started on a Charged path. Thank you, Brendon, for sharing your brilliance and making a difference for so many.

3 Stars--Here's why.... Oct. 20 2012
By In Like Flynn - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I bought the book through a special offer in Fortune Magazine---I just paid "the price of shipping"....It was not even worth that.
I do not doubt Brendon's desire to help but he is not ready to play in the big leagues.
This book is a child's doodle compared with "Success Principles" by Jack Canfield, or "Awaken the Giant Within" by Tony Robbins.

3 Stars for organization, effort, writing ability, good marketing, great cover, etc..etc..
Content? It's just not enough for a real book.

This battery is dead. Even for a self help book, this book is exceptionally borng. I could not get through the first few chapters before I was asking myself "what were you thinking" when I decided to spend the money for this book in hardcover.
