Product Description

From the Inside Flap

Bestselling author Deepak Chopra is the leading pioneer in the field of mind-body medicine. The world-famous Chopra Center for Well Being is a healing place where people come from all over the world to learn how to nurture and transform their bodies, minds, and souls through nutrition, meditation, and mind-body practice. Finally, here is The Chopra Center Cookbook. Chopra’s coauthors for this landmark cookbook are David Simon, M.D., Medical Director of the Chopra Center for Well Being, and Leanne Backer, Executive Chef of the Chopra Center. The Chopra Center Cookbook transforms the way we view food and eating, showing us how to prepare delicious, nutritious meals that lead to integration of body, mind, and spirit while reversing the aging process.

The Chopra Center Cookbook includes 30 days of delicious and balanced meal plans and more than 200 easy-to-make, sumptuous recipes for entr´e es, soups, stews, quick meals, breakfast dishes, snacks, and desserts that take the guesswork out of choosing food that is good for the body. The Chopra Center Cookbook is rooted in both cutting-edge nutritional science and the world’s most ancient health system, Ayurveda, of which yoga is a close relative. Ayurveda recommends that we all partake of the six tastes of life–sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent–and the recipes in this book are balanced to appeal to all six tastes for optimal digestion and enjoyment. The recipes–quite low-fat and yet rich with marvelous spices and herbs to add amazing flavor–favor fresh vegetables and fruits and a wide variety of grains and beans; some also include the option of adding fresh fish and chicken, should you so desire.

Remarkably insightful and incredibly appetizing, The Chopra Center Cookbook teaches us how to eat in healthy ways so the need for nutrition and the need for enjoyment are both satisfied. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

This cookbook is great, the recipes are absolutely delicious, but the most important part of this book is the spiritual aspect that goes along with cooking and eating food. Eating is important for all the obvious reasons, but really nourishing yourself is an incredibly important part of living a vital, healthy life. Everything from the type of food we choose, to the way we prepare it, to the mood we create everytime we sit down to eat, affects our life and health. This book is a great guide to cooking some fantastic meals and really showing you the spiritual side of cooking and eating.

I have never written a review for anything before but felt that I had to write one about this book. My cousin lent me her copy and it wasn't long before I knew I had to order my own copy. It is a bit boring on the inside and could use some pictures but believe me the information and the recipes are excellent. Other than that the food is delicious another advantage is that the recipes are easy and do not take much time.

I have made 6 of the dishes; Granola, Morrocan Vegetables, Curried chickpea stew, Cuban black bean and sweet potato soup; Tofu, eggplant and yukon gold stew; and the Black bean and vegetable stew, and they were all delicious. My husband raved about all of them. I can't wait for mine to arrive so we can continue sampling the recipes. Definitely worth the money.
