5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic, Oct 4 2010

When I saw that Sinclair had this book coming out, I was disappointed that it was not from her Highlander series (I think she must have gotten stumped with the stories for the twin brothers and I am nervous that she is taking a longer break or just flat out done with them *sniffle*) This story was fantastic.

Ranulf has had a hard life and his scared visage has made him a hard man and a very good commander for the new King Henry II. Ranulf is more or less forced to be lord of Hunswick by the king and is escorted by none other than Laon, the father of the heroine. The father died on the way to Ranulf's new keep and Ranulf promised a dying Laon that he would marry his youngest daughter to keep his three daughters safe.

Laon had three daughters: Bronwyn, the brave leader. Edythe the fiery genius. and Lillabet the shallow beauty. Bronwyn is beautiful in her own right, but always upstaged by her younger sisters. And she is stalked by a man (psycho) that wants the lands that would come with a marriage with her or her sisters.

Bronwyn ends up caring for the scarred lord, Ranulf, when he is wounded in the shoulder and, in the process, they fall in love. Her sisters pick the wrong time to try to fix the problems that they cause (there are many and it would be pointless to try to describe their antics in a way that does not turn a reader away from the next installments. Just understand that they are trouble and Bronwyn loves them anyway) and almost force the hero and heroine apart.

There are life threatening events, of course, that bring characters together and the two sisters will keep you smiling through the book. Bronwyn and Ranulf are perfect for each other because they both understand that perfect beauty or the lack there of, means nothing to two people that love each other unconditionally. This book was wonderfully written and I am very much so looking forward to any continuation from either of this author's series.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love a Christmas Romance!, Nov 8 2010
By Roxy "for love of a corset" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Christmas Knight (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm a sucker for Christmas romances and this was pretty good. If you like scarred hero's and true love this is for you. There were moments I do admit to some "What"? moments like in the "wedding chapter" which felt really contrived where I don't think it needed to be. This unfortunately brought this down a notch for me but was made up by the wonderful origins of Christmas history included throughout the book. A good start to the holidays.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Medieval Christmas Romance with Traditions of the Faith, Dec 8 2010

This review is from: The Christmas Knight (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a great Medieval (12th century) Christmas romance. Sinclair begins each chapter with a tradition of Christmastide or Twelfthtide (the 12 days of Christmas) as celebrated then.

It's the story of Ranulf, a knight of King Henry II, who is scarred (literally and figuratively) as a result of his heroism of the past and shunned by most women. He is a warrior known for his feats of valor, but with the death of his father and cousin, he reluctantly is persuaded by an older knight, Leon le Breton, at Henry's insistence, to return to England and accept the responsibility of Lord of Hunswick Castle in Cambria. In an accident aboard ship that claims the life of le Breton, Ranulf grants the dying man's wish and agrees to marry the youngest of his three daughters, Lily. But when he arrives at Huswick, it is the oldest daughter Bronwyn who captures his heart. Bronwyn is posing as her younger sister to try and save her from an unwanted marriage, but Ranulf is not fooled. It is Bronwyn he wants.

Sinclair does a great job of weaving in the Christmas season's traditions that were being celebrated in the 12th century (and many today as well) while drawing us into a true love between two people who have much to give. I really enjoyed this one! Two minor nits: Bronwyn's hair color is described alternately as gold, light brown, dark tawny and chestnut which are not the same color (same problem in Desiring the Highlander, by the way). Also, the "loose thread" of the romance between Ranulf's best friend and Scot, Tyr, and Bronwyn's sister Edythe is never resolved (not even in the epilog) and that left me hungry for more!

If you like this one, you might try the author's McTiernay series. Here's the list:

1. The Highlander's Bride
2. To Wed a Highlander
3. Desiring a Highlander
4. Tempting a Highlander

#5-6 are not out yet

5. A Highlander's Touch
6. Highlander Desire
7. Highlander Love
