Product Description

Product Description

Collects the 11th and 12th volumes of The Complete Peanuts in a handsome slipcase, with intros by television, Broadway and film star Kristin (Pushing Daisies, Wicked) Chenoweth and all-star tennis champion Billie Jean King! Schulz is at the peak of his powers and influence in The Complete Peanuts 1971-1972 and The Complete Peanuts 1973-1974. In Vol. 11, Sally Brown - school phobia, malapropisms, unrequited love for Linus and all - elbows her way to center stage, at least among the humans, and is thus the logical choice for cover girl... And Vol. 12 takes a bike ride with Rerun (his first!) and Charlie Brown is finally well-liked and successful ... as long as he maintains his alter ego "Mister Sack," i.e., keeps a bag over his head. For fans of the character, both books are Woodstock-heavy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A dream-come-true for Charlie Brown afficionados, Jun 5 2010

If you grew up on Charlie Brown (and who didn't?) and bought the paperback books and reread them a hundred times, this is the series you've been waiting for. I have all the books that have been published so far from 1950 to 1970 something. Every original comic strip (including Sunday features) is included in an attractive, incredibly well-bound format. It is very clear to me that a lot of heart and care has gone into the making of this collection. Each book has an introduction from "celebrities" such as Whoopi Goldberg, Walter Cronkite, Matt Groening, Garrison Keillor sharing the impact of Charles Schulz's characters and creativity in their life. There is also an in-depth account of Schulz's own influences and life events reprinted at the end of each book. The size of the book is also well designed. Each thick book contains two years of comic strips, but is still easy to hold and read. What a gift I gave myself when I bought these! And the editors plan to keep on going until they reach the year 2000 and the whole body of Sparky Schulz's work is in our eager little hands to savour forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE WAY to collect PEANUTS!, Sep 12 2009

This is the collection that every Peanuts lover should have. There is only one way to improve this collection which will eventually publish every Peanuts strip from the beginning to the end, and that would be to color the Sunday comics, which would prohibitively raise the price. This collection has some wonderful strips in it when Charles Schulz was riding the tide of creativity. Highly recommended!

If you are not a Peanuts fan , its only because you were to young to have read them in the late sixties and early seventy's , his very best years . Snoopy's Red Baron was especially point-ant and still amusing set in the World War 1 years but published during the Vietnam years . Schultz all ways saw the side on the soldiers in the field . I have been a fan of Peanuts since the late fifties . I still have the pocket books I purchased in the sixties and seventies . My kids love them when they were young and still love them . My nineteen year old son loves these comics . A Great gift set of books . A true treasure .
