An amazing deal,

This review is from: The Complete Space 1999 Megaset: 30th Anniversary Edition (17DVD) (DVD)
There were several episodes that I remembered as a kid and owning this full compilation refreshed all of those past memories. There are local shops offering 6 episodes for 55 dollars and I received all 48(both seasons) for under $100! A must have for any sci-fi fans, especially for those who appreciate what this TV show offered in 1974!cheers...

Great Set to Own,

I grew up with this Sci Fi Program and this DVD set is letting me relive some of my childhood. The quality of the episodes are amazing. The remastering is really well done. Not overblown, just cleaned up. The extras are okay, but you have to realize there wasn't a lot of extra behind the scenes coverage back in the mid 70's.Its nice to be able to view both seasons as they were completely different. And the special effects are still some of the best and hold up today way better than some of these new computer generated effects. If you were a fan of this series, this set is a must, and its a great price for the whole series!

I LOVED this show as a kid, now I'm reliving my childhood with Space:1999, the ENTIRE series! And it is never a dull moment. As I kid I thought this show was so cerebral and philosophical, and season 1 was to a certain extent, season 2 was much less so. I thought it was the best show on TV. Watching it now though, it has dated very badly, but that does not mean it is still not WONDERFUL in every way! Season 1 is admittedly somewhat of a bore. Once you get past the silly premise (moon is torn out of earth's orbit by a nuclear explosion), the show itself is quite entertaining. Obviously influenced by 2001: A Space Odyssey, the sets are incredible, and the scope of everything is quite grand. Unfortunately the acting is rather wooden with Barbara Bain and much of the rest of the cast bordering on comatose. Despite some ambitious storylines and wonderful sets, it is way too slow and portentous, too solemn and serious. There are a few notable episodes though (Death's Other Dominion, Guardian of Piri, The Last Sunset to name a few). Season 2 however ditched the boredom in favor of monsters, MONSTERS and MORE MONSTERS!! Season 2 is like the 60s Batman show, every machine, doorway, item and panel is labelled to ridiculous lengths, the monster costumes are recycled and modified depending on the scripts needs (as are the plotlines), there is NO continuity from episode to episode and the acting is even MORE atrocious! Barbara Bain is hilariously bad, her facial expressions and reactions are always priceless, and Martin Landau's Season 2 Koenig borders on the psychotic, yelling and overreacting to everything. There is NEVER a dull moment in Season 2. The transfers are not bad, season 2 looks much better than season 1, and the extras are a bonus, and there are some great ones. The blu-ray is on it's way, but for those not willing to spend a fortune, this is the best way to acquire the entire series in a compact box set at a great price.
