About the Author

The chair once occupied by Orison Swett Marden, W. Clement Stone, Napoleon Hill, and Og Mandino is where Success publisher and editorial director Darren Hardy now sits. Darren has been a leader in the personal-development industry for sixteen years, having led two personal development-based television networks—The People’s Network (TPN), and The Success Training Network (TSTN)—producing and launching more than a thousand TV shows, live events, and products and programs with many of the world’s top experts.

Darren is a product of the principles he reveals in The Compound Effect. As an entrepreneur, Darren was earning a six-figure income by age eighteen, more than a million dollars a year by age twenty-four, and he owned a company producing $50 million a year in revenue by age twenty-seven. He has mentored thousands of entrepreneurs, advised many large corporations, and serves on the board of several companies and nonprofit organizations.

As publisher and editorial director of Success Magazine, Darren is in a unique position to interview leading experts on human performance and achievement, as well as many of today’s top CEOs, revolutionary entrepreneurs, superstar athletes, entertainers, and Olympic champions, to uncover and share the secrets behind their extraordinary success.

Each month in the pages of Success Magazine, on his blog (DarrenHardy.SUCCESS.com), on Twitter (@ DarrenHardy), on Facebook (DarrenHardyFan), and before live audiences of entrepreneurs across the country, Darren distills the best of the best information and strategies available, mixing in his own street-tested principles of success. Darren’s passion for personal development is at the core of his business and life philosophy. He is committed to helping others achieve their potential in order to live richer, more fulfilling lives.

Darren is a popular keynote speaker and appears regularly on national radio and TV shows for CNBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX.

Darren lives in San Diego, California.

I selected the Einstein quotation to serve as the title of this review because I became convinced long ago that people and the lives they live tend to be the result of the decisions they make. In casinos and in competitive athletics, for example, individuals can be "on a roll" or in what Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi characterizes as "flow." We can't miss, we can't lose, the force is with us. However, that same force can also produce negative, sometimes disastrous results.

Alice Schroeder selected The Snowball as a title for her biography of Warren Buffett because, when he was a boy growing up in Omaha, he observed a large ball-like shape rolling down a hill, gaining both size and speed as it moved along. He immediately recognized its implicit power. Positive compound interest remains among his core principles. For millions of others, negative compound interest (e.g. on credit card debt, "upside-down" mortgages) has created very serious problems.

For me, Darren Hardy's most important point in this book is this: All of the decisions people make (however "small" they may be) can have positive results if those decisions are guided and informed by what he calls The Compound Effect principle. Conversely, a minor cut that becomes infected and is neglected could eventually result in major surgery, perhaps even an amputation. In fact, Hardy insists - and I agree - there are no "minor" or "small" decisions if their potential implications and consequences are ignored. These are among the subjects that Hardy addresses in his book:

o How to win--every time! The No. 1 strategy to achieve any goal and triumph over any competitor, even if they're smarter, more talented or more experienced.

Darren Hardy, a mentor of mine through many audio CD's and now author of the Compound Effect, reminds us by giving our 100% to our relationships, to our health, to our business, to our selves will in fact compound the results we are looking for. He emphasizes we need to determine our 'why' as this will keep 'moe' moving in the right direction. Stand out in the crowd. If the crowd is moving to the right, move to the left. By taking action 'today' and continuing with this habit, those habits will bring our small steps into huge gains over time.

Darren - you are an inspiration! Great Job on the Book!

A book to keep by your side,
L. Whitefoot

I have read most of this book and think it's great. The author's low-hyperbole approach is a breath of fresh air and his ideas are excellent. I've begun using some of them and I am impressed.

My beef is with Amazon.ca. Why isn't the audio version available? It is at Amazon.com. For those of us with young kids and too-busy lives, audio versions are a godsend. This is at least the third time I've experienced this. I'm getting less and less impressed with Amazon.ca.

Please fix the problem Amazon.ca.

This book can be a "quick read" but it must NOT be left as such. There is great wisdom in these pages to be gleaned only by studying this masterpiece by Darren Hardy. The added resource tools available online could make this a textbook ... and it is a subject to be taken by everyone serious about making a significant contribution to our wonderful world. BLESSINGS to you Darren Hardy!

I really enjoyed this book. Darren speaks plain English and talks to you through this book like he was with you one on one. I have read many other books that are styled to make you feel like an idiot in needing help. Darren comes across as warm, caring and genuine in his desire to see you become what you want to be. We'll done Darren and thank you.
