Product Description

The perfect gift book for the power hungry (and who doesn't want power?) at an excellent price. This is the concise edition of an international bestseller. At work, in relationships, on the street or on the 6 o'clock news: the 48 Laws apply everywhere. For anyone with an interest in conquest, self-defense, wealth, power or simply being an educated spectator, "The 48 Laws of Power" is one of the most useful and entertaining books ever. This book 'teaches you how to cheat, dissemble, feign, fight and advance your cause in the modern world' - "Independent on Sunday". The distilled wisdom of the masters - illustrated through the tactics, triumphs and failures from Elizabeth I to Henry Kissinger on how to get to the top and stay there. Wry, ironic and clever this is an indispensable and witty guide to power. The laws are now famous: Law 1: Never outshine the master; Law 2: Never put too much trust in friends; learn how to use enemies; Law 3: Conceal your intentions; and, Law 4: Always say less than necessary.

Like it or not, people get more and more pragmatic in their everyday moral behaviour, so chances are high that you will be confronted with one or more of the 48 Laws of Power sooner or later. Don't let yourself be fooled by Christian rhetorics. Hypocrisity is now the standard -- if it wasn't already through the times. If you want to be wise and just, reading the 48 Laws of Power will help you.

Just bought the book after using the audiobook version several times. The author puts it best when he describes how everyone plays for power, even those who appear to exclude themselves from the game. The laws are sometimes contradictory, but the lessons from history do prove helpful in sorting things out. A must read for anyone in a position of authority, or seeking power in business, politics and even life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great literature, July 7 2004
This review is from: The Concise 48 Laws of Power (Paperback)
In a nutshell, this book is like Machiavelli, without the boring context. This is a short-cut for historians. I was a history major and I am learning more about history, to include amusing anectdotes, than I did in college. In other words, this book makes history relevant, which is difficult. Maybe someday the author could make a boring subject like math relevent too. Every page oozes with wisdom, in my opininion. I have a very fast paced job and I learned a lot of these lessons the hard way.
