I bought this book when I was 6 months pregnant. It was on the recommendation of a complete stranger who said "if there's one book I could tell you to get it would be 'The New Contented Little Baby Book'. My baby has slept through the night since she was 6 weeks old and so have two of my girlfriends babies."
Well that sold it for me, all I could do was try and guess what, my little 9pounder born by emergency C section has slept through the night since he was 4 weeks old. Other than the recommended waking at 10.30pm for a feed, he fell into the routine set out by Gina Ford like it was a natural instinct. He is the only baby in my mothers group of 12 babies who sleeps through the night and the only baby following Gina Fords routine.
Many people claim she is military like in her routines but when probed I find these people have neither read the entire book nor tried the routine for themselves. The only thing I found difficult was waking a sleeping baby at 10.30pm to feed him. However if it saved me getting up at 12am, 2am and 4am, then a gentle kiss and cuddle to rouse him wasn't so bad.
She is very thorough and very flexible, you take what you want and learn to adjust the rules for your baby. Now I know when he is going to be sleeping, when he will be eating and when he will be having his bath, life is very happy, calm and contented in this home.
If there is one book I can recommend for the new mum it would definitly be this one. Read it before you have your baby and decide if it's for you.
