3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable ... but a bad ending, Nov 15 2008

This review is from: The Covenant (Widescreen/Full Screen) (DVD)
The Covenant was an interesting movie to watch because of the storyline, but the ending was unclear as to what would happen. If you are looking for a horror movie, then this is not the one for you. The Covenant is full of suspense, which leaves you wondering what the characters will do or show you next. More characters' lives should have been focused on, instead of just Caleb Danvers's.

In 1692, in the Ipswich Colony of Massachusetts, there were five families of powerful witches that commit to a covenant of silence to protect themselves from witch hunters. However, one of the families broke their pact and were banished from the lands. The power and the covenant are transmitted through descendants; the eldest son receives the powers, and gains greater power when they become eighteen. The use of the greater powers is addicting and ages the warlock.

There are four warlocks in school: Tyler Simms, Reid Garwin, Caleb Danvers, and Pogue Parry. Caleb Danvers is about to turn eighteen, thus will ascend. Darklings are appearing; there is someone with cruel intentions around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie!, Oct 20 2010
This review is from: The Covenant [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This movie is a fun ride with pretty cool special effects and a believable yet fun story line. The actors and crew really bring the story to life. The special featurette really goes behind the scenes to show you how they pulled it off.

4.0 out of 5 stars well done ghost story with some great action sequences, Aug 5 2007

i enjoyed this movie quite a bit.i really liked the style of it.there's a sort of Gothic feel to things.and i thought there were some cool visual effects.it's a fast paced movie, and it's just over 90 minutes, but they pack a lot into it.i like the fact that they didn't use big name actors.this is more of an ensemble piece, and big name actors would have taken the focus away from the story and onto themselves.not on purpose, but that is what generally happens.the actors are all good.there all pretty natural in their performances.i really like the fact that each character had very different and distinct personalities.i guess you could call this movie kind of a ghost story with action.either way,i thought it was well done.i recommend it
