Book Description

Sep 3 2005 Answer Book (Storey)
Wouldn't it boost your confidence to have an experienced and confident crocheter on call, day and night, offering assistance when needed? Most of us aren't fortunate enough to have that kind of aid, but now there is help available 24/7 with The Crochet Answer Book.

Being a "good" crocheter is not about making perfectly stitched, elaborate, artful creations. It is rather a matter of confidence. You need to be confident in what you are doing and in how to figure out what to do if things aren't going quite right. Understanding why you do certain things and why they turn out the way they do increases confidence and leads to successful crocheting.

This book answers some of the most common questions crocheters have, and anticipates some questions you didn't know you had. The Crochet Answer Book will lead you down the road to gaining the confidence that makes for good crocheting.

Product Description

From Booklist

Crochet might be easily defined as creating a series of loops with hooks; to many novices, however, the craft itself might defy simple understanding. Eckman comes to the rescue with dozens of well-thought-out questions, comprehensible answers, and chapters on topics ranging from equipment needs to resources for more information. She includes line illustrations and charts for added explanations; tools, for instance, and specific techniques (stitches, borders, and buttonholes) are well illustrated. Best of all, her can-do personality and gentle humor shine through, comforting the unsure crocheters among us. Who could quibble with her response to the question "I put down my afghan for a year, and when I came back to it, my gauge had changed? What happened?" Responds Edie, "Life." Appended are standard crochet abbreviations, common crochet terms and phrases, standard body measurements and sizing, suggested sizes for accessories and household items, and yarn care symbols. 5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Pocket Know-All Feb 17 2011
Format:Turtleback
The Crochet Answer Book really does have all the answers. The book has pictures, questions and all the answers you need. The book is small though, almost like a dictionary, which makes it hard to lay flat (you really have to crack the spine.) I've been working on a project and every time I've had a question I've found the answer in the book, which to me makes it a great resource. If you're looking for a bigger book with glossy pictures I suggest a stitch dictionary that's a little bit bigger, but if you don't have a crochet mentor around (like me) then this little book will be your guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Knitters who don't Crochet Sep 17 2009

Format:Turtleback
I don't crochet very well, and even then, only out of necessity. This is the "Go-To" book I reach for if I just need something simple (or not so simple) to add to whatever project I'm working on. Also makes a great stocking stuffer for those who have a crocheter or knitter in their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost every Hint you need to learn to crochet. Aug 13 2012
Format:Turtleback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I found this to be an excellent resource. I knew the basic crochet stitches but not much else. This is something to keep in your work bag (it is small and compact) as a reference. One of it's really useful features is the information on how many stitches to increase for the different stitches when making ovals, circles or squares. It may be missing a few tips but not many. One of my favourite resources.
