The "Daily Five" is a series of literacy tasks — reading to self, reading with someone, writing, word work, and listening to reading — which students complete while the teacher meets with small groups or confers with individuals. Explicit modeling, practice, reflecting, and refining help to prepare the foundation for a year of meaningful content instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of each child.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daily 5 in new settings Dec 28 2013
By Beth
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I had heard lots about the Daily 5 in my teacher training but had not been in a classroom where it was in use. I implemented it in my second year teaching in a special education setting. It has been incredibly valuable for my students and the book has offered clear instructions and support for me. Although I have modified the program slightly, it has been applicable so far.

Great book & very detailed. Gives very clear instructions for implementation. I recommend this book to any teacher who wants to get their students to read independently with meaning. Would recommend buying the CAFE book also.

3.0 out of 5 stars Literacy independence. Feb. 5 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I like the ideas in the book. I thought there was more description than was necessary. It would be better if this book and the next one were combined into one.

I enjoyed this book and can't wait to implement it into my class this year. It was an easy read and I loved the fact that a sample on how to introduce D5 for the first few weeks was provided.
