I bought this book on the recommendation of another teacher who let me preview her copy. It is an amazing resource. I got it because I wanted to improve my guided literacy/independent reading program, but it's going to be useful for all aspects of the literacy block. Already (about a month), my students have improved their stamina for reading independently while I work with small groups. The book is small, but mighty. It's easy to read and written very clearly.

Great resource book. Easy to read and use. Makes you feel really positive about teaching reading and that anyone can do it with any student. Step by step instructions for daily lessons. I have seen the success first hand. Amazing!!!

This book is similar to Lucy Caulkins in the way they lay out what to say during lessons. A lot of charts need to be made which is difficult in early primary with low reading levels. The students seems to enjoy building stamina, but it's difficult with special needs students. Partner read wasn't as successful as I'd like but I will continue to model and see if early primary students can handle that piece.

I had heard lots about the Daily 5 in my teacher training but had not been in a classroom where it was in use. I implemented it in my second year teaching in a special education setting. It has been incredibly valuable for my students and the book has offered clear instructions and support for me. Although I have modified the program slightly, it has been applicable so far.
