Best version yet,

This review is from: The Day of the Triffids (DVD)
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer regarding this TV version of the science fiction book "The Day of the Triffids". It is a very faithful retelling of this classic novel and far superior to the movie version from the 60's. I saw this on public television when it first came out in the early 80's and was very pleased to be able to see it again. Yes, it has dated a bit, but not as much as I anticipated. Yes, the special effects could be surpassed and expanded upon today but I have to say that those responsible for constructing and animating the Triffids did an excellent job! This version reflects the novel's focus on the breakdown of society as we know it over "monsters on the loose" type of story telling. Perhaps someday this tale will be remade for the big screen but for now, this is the best effort to date.

Solid adaption of the novel,

This review is from: The Day of the Triffids (DVD)
The BBC delivered a solid, if cheap, adaption of John Wyndham's novel; well ahead of the previous movie. Certainly the effects are well below Hollywood standards, even of that era, and a certain amount of expensive story-telling is handled off-camera, but the acting is convincing and the story is well told. My only real complaint is that occasionally I felt that there were some rather sudden changes of character, but there's only so much you can do in a mini-series.
