From Publishers Weekly

Part memoir, part murder mystery and part diatribe, this book targets socially conservative Christians, but much of its content will undoubtedly engender sympathy in a broader audience. In response to three years of allegations that they killed their daughter, the Ramseys have written their side of the story, refuting the myriad accusations leveled against them and replacing them with their own recollections of events. These recollections paint a more than plausible picture of a family victimized at first by the horrific murder of a young child and then by a relentless media and police campaign to smear their reputations and prove their guilt. There is a whiff of narcissism in their tendency to refer to themselves in the third person; detailed descriptions of their homes, clothing and other possessions add to this impression. The Ramseys do, however, acknowledge that their wealth, now mostly gone, has protected them from the wrongful incarceration that many Americans endure. The Ramseys' attempt to set the record straight is at times tiresome, especially when they predictably complain about liberals who hate them because they are successful. But as we read their account of the hellishness of their lives since their daughter's murder, we realize that nothing about this situation has ever been fair and simply mourn that they had occasion to write this book at all. 16-page photo insert. Author appearances on 20/20, Today and Larry King Live.

Book Description

Since the murder of their daughter on Christmas night, 1996, John and Patsy Ramsey have lived a nightmare of grief, fear, and persecution. Throughout the onslaught, they have remained quiet, patiently trusting that the focus would finally turn to finding the person who committed this heinous crime. The Death of Innocence contradicts the myths, half-truths, and outright lies that have been published as fact in this tragic case. It also tells of the Ramseys faith in God, their trust that He is in control, and their relationship with Him that has seen them through this tortuous ordeal. From the people who have lived it, this is the entire story for the first time-from the inside out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book!, Oct 24 2007

I came across this book at a yard sale and since it was only a quarter I bought it. I just finished reading it. Although I had heard of the Jon Benet murder case, I never knew too many details other than John and Patsy were suspected of murdering their child. The book gave alot more details about what happened and what they went through. Whether they are innocent or not only God knows and He will judge murderers. Being very religious they would know that God condemns murder and the murderer will not inherit God's Kingdom. Justice will eventually be served!

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is disgusting, July 4 2004
This review is from: The Death of Innocence: The Untold Story of JonBenets Murder and the Investigation that Failed Us All (Hardcover)
I have read this book and I am so mad that I spent my money on it. I should have waited until it came out in the library. I should have known that the money wasn't going to be going to a charity (that doesn't even exist!) But to be used to help with the Ramsey's home by redecorating it, since Patsy is another Martha Stewart and poor old John doesn't have a job. Then why doesn't he look for one?? Oh wait, that's right, I almost forgot, they don't hire killers! Since he may kill someone else on the job! And Patsy sits at home all day feeling sorry for herself and sitting in a corner talking to God. God can't help you if you don't help yourself. And poor Burke is just in school walking around with a fake smile and saying 'hey, everything okay. I'm doing great!' while really, he's PETRIFIED and wants his Mom and Dad in jail. It also makes me sick that they put pictures of themselves on the cover and not JonBenet. Although the picture on the back is beautiful, why don't they switch places and put thier ugly picture on the back and let JonBenet's beautiful and innocent face grace the front cover? After all, she does deserve it. This is about JonBenet, not thier miserable years they've been going through. Although the Ramseys killed thier daughter because they thought that doing so would gain them fame and money, but instead they have to crawl in a hole and hide and scrimp and save. And since Patsy was a former beauty queeen, she just HAD to kill her daughter to get back into the spotlight, which is not the same as she thought it would be back in 1977. Now it's the complete opposite and she wants to get away from it all. Well Patsy, you don't tell the truth, they're going to be after you as long as you live. Same with John. And as with poor Burke, having to live with killers, I wonder what's going through his mind? I wonder if he was even awake and saw everything what happened that night. But unfortunatly, the parents are brainwashing him and talking to him that being rich and get you out of anything, I hope that Burke doesn't forget anything and will come forward when his parents are gone and tell the police what happened. I KNOW Burke knows a lot about the killing that he's dying to tell. He's old enough to know right from wrong by now. This book is all about the parents and not about JonBenet. What selfish and whiney parents. They cry about how they've been abused by the public and media. Well, looks like killing thier child didn't get them what they wanted....fame and money. Yeah, they got fame, but not good fame. no wonder they are labled "The most hated couple in America." I sure can see why!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Give me a break!, Jun 14 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Death Of Innocence (Paperback)
The Death of Innocence is the story of how JonBenet's parents were thrust under the spotlight of suspicion shortly after their beauty queen daugher was found brutally murdered in their mansion. It tells about the last day of JonBenet's life-Christmas 1996. Although it answers SOME questions, it doesn't seem very truthful and only brings up more questions. The book was released at the wrong time, and it mostly talks about revenge on the people that murdered their daughter. It also gives a discription of what the "killer" may look like. I didn't believe a word of the bologna they dished. This book is all about people that need to pity them, and not enough about the daughter that should have been the most important thing in their lives. I would not reccomend this TRASH.
