The Definitive Guide to Cancer is exactly that, a guide., July 25 2010
By TMP - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Definitive Guide to Cancer, 3rd Edition: An Integrative Approach to Prevention, Treatment, and Healing (Paperback)
The Definitive Guide to Cancer is exactly that, a guide. It is not a book with incoherent facts and figures but rather it explains and guides possible ways to improve your quality of life and ability to heal. It addresses specific cancers, and with each kind of cancer addressed it provides information on the causes, conventional treatment options, and always complementary approaches; like improving your lifestyle and diet with natural supplements. To me, the idea of being diagnosed with cancer of any kind is a tumultuous part of anyone's life, and in seeking a guide to prevent and heal, the only thing i would ask for is literature that presents the facts as sincerely as this book does. The content of this book is reassuring because the authors present their knowledge and information in a straight forward and honest manor. When it comes to an integrative approach to prevention, treatment, and healing I couldn't think of anything better to recommend!

Our Choice for Patients to read, Aug 4 2010
By Jacob Schor - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Definitive Guide to Cancer, 3rd Edition: An Integrative Approach to Prevention, Treatment, and Healing (Paperback)
The majority of patients I see in our office have come to us because they have cancer and want more options than what they are offered in their oncologist's offices. They have read that diet, exercise, nutritional supplements and other natural techniques may help them in their fight against cancer. Yet their oncologists can provide little or no information on what else they can do along with surgery, chemo and radiation.
Often these people are desperate and turn to the internet to find things that might help. Never was the phrase, "Buyer Beware" more applicable to those seeing cancer cures online. Much of my time with new patients is spent answering questions spurred on by unproven and rather suspicious claims of miracle cures. I have long sought out a book that I could hand our patients that would provide an honest roadmap of the path that lies ahead of them. A book that covers cancer from both sides of the path, the standard medical oncologic approach and the alternative and complementary approach. A book that helps people integrate both approaches together so that they can get the best of both. In the end is not how patients get better but getting them better.
This book is the one we have chosen to use in our office and we currently purchase them by the box. I haven't found a better book for our purposes. It's honest, straightforward, well written and covers almost all the topics that need to be covered. If this you are only going to read one book about cancer, this is a good choice.

An Excellent Resource, Aug 22 2010
By Irene Nystrom - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Definitive Guide to Cancer, 3rd Edition: An Integrative Approach to Prevention, Treatment, and Healing (Paperback)
I was fortunate to receive a copy of this excellent book. This recent publication is the most credible and helpful resource I have seen on the market regarding an integrative approach to the prevention and treatment of cancer. The authors have incorporated information from several fields of knowledge, including conventional medicine, to provide readers with an invaluable guide for an understanding of the different types of cancer, preventive measures that make sense, and when cancer occurs, the options available for treatment and healing.
There are numerouls books on cancer and it is unusual to find one that is as organized and clearly written as this book by Dr. Alschuler and Ms. Gazella. Furthermore, as a professional, knowledgeable about research methods and the importance of reliable and valid studies to support findings and recommendations, I found this book's use of research more credible and useful than most publications on integrative approaches. The charts throughout the text add clarity to the material as well as the case studies and cited opinions from other professionals.
I give much credit to Dr. Alschuler and Ms. Gazella for the extraordinary effort they extended in writing this book. Professionals, families and individuals should have this book and use the material as a primary resource on their understanding of cancer, how the disease may be prevented, and when it occurs, what options are available for treatment and healing.
