4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but wish there were colour pictures for recipes, Aug 22 2009

I suggest Dr Bernstein either publish pictures separately as an add on purchase to slip into the back of the book or have a section on his web site for all the pictures...later when he designs an update for the book, the pictures should go into it, but the advantage of an add in pamplet of pictures is that previous purchasers could buy it too. The pictures would refer to the recipe name, but not have the recipe, so there could be 2 pictures per page.

I am a thorough believer in Bernsteins' approach, as I read his 1997 main book, "The Diabetes Solution" and I've bought it again to get the latest revision. I've been diabetic almost 29 years and know that low carb is the way to go. Bless him for educating people and I totally agree with his disdain for the ADA and hence the CDA as I'm canadian. I don't think you can eat anything as long as you take enough drugs to cover it. People get fat that way. I'm 5'6" and 130 lbs. If I ate like other diabetic people and took more insulin I would be fat too, as lots of people are. Dr Bernstein understands this. I've been a fan of his for about 8 years, since I first read his book.

My 4/5 rating is due to the lack of pictures, otherwise it would be 5/5 as I rate his main book.

Book/Author gives you hope that your diagnosis of 'Diabetes' (I'm type 2) is not a downward spiral into ill health. Very detailed but simple to follow...let's you take charge of your own health. Major thing is that it does go against the current Diabetic Association's diet guidelines; so you may have difficulties with your diabetic clinic's attitude.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will SAVE YOUR LIFE!!!, Oct 21 2006
Ce commentaire est de: The Diabetes Diet (Hardcover)
This book will save your life!!! Yes it is possible to 'normalize' your blood sugars! I follow this plan and it has worked! My gestational diabetes converted to the real thing in 2002. I was put on the conventional ADA diet (220 carb a day!) and quickly found I could not keep my blood sugars in range on this diet. In frustration I read everything I could to research this disease. I had worked as therapist in a rehab hospital long enough to see hundreds of diabetic patients suffer strokes, heart attacks, kidney disease, amputations etc. I had a healthy fear of this disease!!! In short, it kills. This book explains how Dr Bernstein suffered as a Type I diabetic for years until he -through trial and error- figured out what foods to eat to normalize blood sugar. I now eat low carb as Dr Bernstein recommends and have never felt better! The website for the book is www.diabetes-book.com. The forum on this site is exceptional for recipes and support for following this program. I have so much admiration and respect for Dr. Richard Bernstein. He's not out to make a buck...no low carb products/gimmicks. He became an MD to teach other diabetics how to 'normalize' their blood sugars and works only with diabetic patients. I recommend this book to every diabetic person I meet!!!
