Product Description

. . . simply irresistible . . . (Margaret Cannon Globe and Mail 2011-07-01)

Like The Water Rat of Wanchai, [Ian] Hamilton's second novel is a fast, reasonably captivating and thoroughly researched jaunt through one or two of the world's international financial underbellies and dubious characters. (Joan Barfoot London Free Press 2011-07-09)

Ava Lee is chic, bright and an ace at deciphering complex financial crimes...swift and dangerous...a whole lot of action. (Jack Batten Toronto Star 2011-11-29)

Ava Lee is one tough, smart woman ... she's a hit! (Jenni Mortin Saskatoon Star Phoenix 2011-12-24)

Hamilton gives his reader plenty to think about ... entertaining ... (Patrick Davitt Kitchener-Waterloo Record 2012-01-27)

Lee is a hugely original creation, and Hamilton packs his adventure with interesting facts and plenty of action. (Irish Independent 2012-11-17)

This is slick, fast-moving escapism reminiscent of Ian Fleming, with more to come in what shapes us a a high-energy, high concept series. (Booklist 2012-12-01)

Hamilton makes each page crackle with the kind of energy that could easily jump to the movie screen... this riveting read will keep you up late at night. (Rachel Kramer Bussel Penthouse 2013-03-01)

4.0 out of 5 stars a rolicking read ... Jan. 27 2014

Ava Lee continues to romp through these books and she just keeps getting better in each one -- she's lost some of the predictability of the last couple of books (the starbucks instant coffee thing, the black sweat pants etc.) and has moved more into a full blown character for me -- love the energy of these books and she's a compelling strong heroine in a complex world -- more please!

1.0 out of 5 stars I want my money back! Nov. 8 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Hate the obvious and crass product endorsements in this novel. Why should I pay to buy the book and also be subjected to the author's obvious flogging of Starbucks, Giordano and Adidas (just to name a few)? Films can, sometimes, get away with it as a camera casually pans past a recognizable brand name but in prose and as part of a literary narrative, it is impossible not to make this sell-out obvious. And it is only magnified by the ridiculous amount of times it is done in the book. This cheapens the writing, is thoroughly irritating and in my opinion, makes a huge marketing faux pas - not only will I not buy another novel by this author, I will not recommend it and make sure to address this travesty on my various social media sites.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Strong Storyteller Sept. 20 2013

Ava Lee's character develops further i this second of the series. She stands up to the Chinese man for whom she is doing the job, and even though she dislikes him fulfils her contract. Interesting look at online gaming and native American involvement in casinos. She even works in a rather nasty British politician -- and it all seems plausible.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Ava Lee books July 29 2013

I am going to read all the books in the series.
I just finished The Disciple of Las Vegas, it was great, a bit more physical than the first one, but so educational and interesting.
I love that she lives in Toronto, and Hamilton is the master of description.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Great Read!!!!! July 4 2011
The only problem I had with this book was that I couldn't put it down once I started. Ava Lee has to be the most original character in Canadian crime fiction. She is almost addictive. I kept thinking about her and the story long after I finished the book. What a great read!!!!! What an amazing character!!!!
