4.0 out of 5 stars the disciplined trader Nov 7 2005
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This book took Douglas 7 years to write --- Yes that's correct seven years. And it shows. It has incredible depth explaining the psychological issues of trading AND as such it is an exceptionally 'heavy' read. I tended to need a break from this book every so often.
Douglas's second book 'Trading in the Zone' is a much better read and a more practical resource. Definitely get the second one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful Oct 1 2010
By Patrick Sullivan TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
This is one of the best books ever written, regarding the art of trading. The majority of trading books focus on technical aspects of trading. Douglas discusses the psychology of trading. The psychological aspect of trading is far more important, then the technical aspect.
Douglas outlines how controlling your emotions will allow you to make sound assessments, of various probabilities. Trading is never a black and white type of environment. You have to be clear headed at all times, and therefore be able to make good decisions. Douglas points out all the areas and mental traps, that prevent a person from making a good decision.
I will also warn, that you may have to read the book more then once. The first time I read this book, I thought it was a complete waste of time. Douglas`s book seemed more like Jimmy Hendrix acid trip, then something that would help a trader. I later found out this book is a gold mine of trading information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn by losing or buy this book May 29 2004
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I love this book. It has helped me understand myself in both the market and in life.

I sold a stock that wasn't acting right this week because of the way I've changed my mindset from reading this book. I know I did the right thing and I fully expect it to go down in the near future. This is something I wouldn't have admitted to myself before. I feel like a chain has been broken.

I really like the way he describes things. He tends to give a lot of examples and "in other words" type descriptions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Should be three chapters long
An OK book, but very repetitive. The last chapter is the most useful. There are better books, such as Trading for a Living.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Mr. Douglas
Anyone noticed that Mr. Douglas's detractors are NOT experienced traders? All I have to say is: THANK YOU 1000 TIMES MR DOUGLAS.
