Book Description

Jun 1 2001
We spend a third of our lives sleeping, After all, there has to be some part of our day when we stop talking and just listen. Dreams give us more than surrealistic landscapes and a cow or two descending from a cloud. They provide the knowledge and the tools we need to have happier, more fulfilling lives. Aside from Carl Jung, Betty Bethards couldn't find a dream master she felt comfortable with. But Jung hadn't supplied her with a glossary of dream symbols. So she channeled her own glossary, with the help of her guidance. That glossary became "The Dream Book: Symbols for Self Understanding" and today, it is the best selling book on dream analysis in existence. People will not go on a trip without it. And it has a permanent place on thousands of bedside tables throughout the world. In short, this is a very loved book. But more than that, it helps you keep to your life plan, showing you some of the choices you've made as being unwise and some as going in the right direction. Betty tells us all dreams are positive-so right away, you are ahead.

About the Author

Betty, who left us in 2002, was a renowned mystic who not only shared her gifts, but lived by them. She was an author, lecturer, teacher, and someone known as the "Common Sense Guru." Her teachings came with one proviso; That people would regard her merely as a teacher and not a crutch, and that they would take her teachings and run with them. Her mission was that everyone be their own guru.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!! Sep 14 2003
Format:Paperback
This is the one of the best dream interpretation books out there. In the beginning it shows you what kinds of dreams there are, how they work and also 3 free tools on self-understanding. The interpretations of the dream symbols make sense because they are all about you. For example, if you dreamt about your Grandmother the dream would not be about your Grandmother, but rather the wiser part of yourself! Get it? If you are interested in interpreting your dreams, go ahead and buy it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected April 22 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I was really looking forward to getting an interpretation to some of my dreams, mainly just for fun. Unfortunately, much of the book steers you towards what you should do in response to a dream rather than just interpreting where the dream may have come from.
When I set out to interpret my first dream, I couldn't find most of the components of the dream, so I gave up. I.e. - the index of symbols is very limited.
Also, the author avoids some of the more interesting dream contents, such as sex. Dreams about sex are described as your interest in "combining forces" with another person. I don't know about you, but when I dream about Cindy Crawford, it's not because I think she and I could start a business together.
I still need a good dream interpretation book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spiritual and Practical Guide July 29 2002
Format:Paperback
This is a wonderful book which has helped me interpret my dreams. I particularly like Bethards emphasis on the spiritual--developing your higher consciousness. Using principles of eastern religion/philosophy, such as karma and reincarnation, she sees dreams, along with prayer and meditation, as a tool to help you achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
Emphasizing the need to work to achieve your goals, to focus and direct your energy towards them, to take responsibility for your own actions, she believes you can create your own destiny.
Her dream interpretations are always guiding, teaching, gentle and caring, never threatening or frightening.
I find this book an insightful, uplifting, spiritual guide, which also helps you in a practical way, as you work to attain your ambitions here on earth.
