The evil Shadowen still retain their hold and continue to drain the Four Lands of the magic that had been their lifeblood. The King of the Silver River, a fabulous being as old as mankind, creates a daughter named Quickening and sends her to assist. She joins Morgan Leah and Pe Ell, an assassin who plans to eventually kill her, on a journey to the far north to recover the lost magic, a process that involves the need to capture the Black Elfstone. Brooks weaves an intricate tale with a richly detailed fantasy world peopled with multidimensional characters. As with the previous four books about Shannara, fans will not be disappointed with this wonderful fairy tale. This should be an automatic pur chase for collections serving fantasy readers.

this book is one of the best shannara books. it is probably second only to talismans of shannara. Druid of Shannara is an excellent adventure/fantasy novel with plenty of suspense near the ending. The book is finished in a very unpredictable fashion and it adds to the excitement of reading the book. You don't expect the ending to be the way it is. If you skip reading this book, you are really missing out.

Druid ranks among my favorite books in the series. I loved some of the subtle environmental themes expressed through Quickening. Getting a look into Walker's unhappy past added great depth to his character, and often I identified with some of his resentment and unhappiness. Morgan Leah also develops wonderfully in this book and is fast becoming one of my favorite shannara characters. Kudos for creating a fascinating villain in Pe Ell, the asassin. Curiously, i noted some similarities between him and Artemis Entreri, the trademark villain created by RA salvatore (a Brooks protege). hopefully Tanequil will continue where Druid left off in the exploration of the relatively unknown Northland.

I finished reading Druid about 3 days ago, and it was just plain awesome. Scions, which I read probably a week ago, was far less engaging and uninteresting for much of the book. I liked Druid because it has much more action, drama, and is just overall more complete feeling. Walker Boh starts to finally be interesting, Morgan Leah matures, and Pe Ell and Quickening make excellent additional characters to the world of Shannara. Difficulties, conflicts, triumph, love, victory and loss, all of these can be found in Druid of Shannara and make for an excellent book. I had to give it a 4 out of 5 however because I found Elfstones to be far better, so to give Druid a 5 would be an injustice to Elfstones. So, though this book is awesome, you need to read Scions first for it to make much sense. If you didn't like Scions much, try Druid anyway, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Finally detail on the Northland.
This is just as good as Scions.It has just as much character detail,and just as good a plot .It even has detail on the Northland that Brooks has not revealed yet. Read more

Good but predictable
When taken on it's own, this book is a revised retelling of the Elfstones of Shannara. The same overall motivations and plot events occur and there is roughly the same event. Read more
