Product Description

Review

?This book is an outstanding summary of the most important economic issues that affect the elderly. Nowhere is there as complete and clear a description of the government programs that affect the elderly. The history, purpose, strengths and weaknesses, and summary statistics of the effects on the elderly are all presented clearly. Both sides of controversial issues are given fair coverage.?-Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (on previous edition) --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Description

This text addresses the economic aspects of ageing. It provides an examination of the significant advances and changes that have taken place in recent years as they affect US national policy and individual retirement decisions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs updating, Feb 6 2011

This review is from: The Economics of Aging: Seventh Edition (Paperback)
I used this book as a text in a gerontology course. I taught the course the last time in 2007, 4 years ago, and it was out-of-date then. The statistics and analysis are from the mid-to-late 1990's. Much has changed since then. To be useful as a textbook it needs to be updated to reflect changes in demographics and federal policies. Example, Medicare Part D is not discussed.

I was extremely happy with the book, i knew it was going to be used and was expecting a lot worse. The book looks brand new, as if it was never opened. Was shipped out as promised and received less than 2 weeks.
