Ive played Elder Scrolls for about 2 weeks now and I havent even started the main storyline , that statement just about sums up this loooooooong game.

Theres nothing worse than buying a game that looks amazing and then finishing it after a few days of being glued to the screen , theres absolutely NO CHANCE of you doing this with Elder Scrolls because its freakin huge. But thats enough about the size of the game.

If you have the patience to get out of the first section of the game you allready see the potential Oblivion has for being able to make you think '' damn , if only I would have done this with my character I wouldnt be in the predicament im in now '' Likelyhood is when you first play Oblivion you are not going to keep that character for very long.

I strongly advise that you find a decent fan site that can explain to you the intricate methods of character creation and the levelling system so you get the most out of your adventure. There are lots of variations on the races you can play as, and each one has definate playing styles that you really need to know about beforehand ( and the instruction manual that comes with the game only scratches the surface of what the characters are capable of - example -> you dont want to try and turn a stealth type character into a hack and slash tank, it just doesnt start off with the right kind of attributes , and the instruction manual doesnt even mention attributes :p )

So yeh, after 2 weeks of playing and 5 characters later ive finally managed to make the female Orc that suits the direction i'd like to go.

Some people have said the games criminal system is too strict and its too easy to get caught stealing or murdering, but frankly thats not true at all ...

I started playing this game as I really liked the game play of Fallout 3, but I prefer games with swords and a more medieval feel. Ahhh Oblivion, it has everything I was looking for. I also have not even started into the main quest since I had installed the expansions right away. Following each side quest as it came, I was lead to the expansion very early, not that I mind at all! The game is quite challenging, but keeps you entertained and wanting more. I have put 16 hours into it so far over the past few weeks. This is basically the only game I play other then the odd DS game. The beginning is slow, but once you get past that, it's awesome. You can be pretty much any kind of character you want. Make sure you start increasing your skill levels quickly. I just drifted through the first part and had a hard time with a few quests as my needed skill levels were far too low. But now after some work, it's becoming a bit easier to get through each quest. I'm currently in the Shivering Isles and just finally started working on the main quest of that expansion. Honestly you can get lost in what seems to be never ending side quests (not that that's a bad thing!!!)
The game of the year edition is the best one you can get. It's the same price as the standard Oblivion game, but comes with the expansions. Save yourself the money down the road, just buy this one. You won't regret buying it, unless you really don't like a game that goes on forever!!!!!

Well, not really. That's just what my wife says. I can sort of see where she is coming from. I have spent so much time playing this game that I seem to be forgetting that my body needs sleep. How can you not play this game for hours on end. There is so much to see and do that you may never complete it all. Without exagerating, there are hundreds of gaming hours to be had in this game. Especially with the GOTY edition which includes 2 expansions. In addition to the number of quests, side quests and overall exploring you can do in this game there are numerous other things that will take up your sleep time. Character development is huge. Race, class, specialities, skills, characteristics. All of these have huge impacts on your character and ultimately how you play the game. My first character was a standard hack & slash fighter. I entered into combat full on with the mightiest weapons and toughest armour but I wanted to try something else, so later I decided to create a new character, a thief, and the whole game changed. I was suddenly trying to figure out how to complete the same quests without the ability to fight my way through. The ability to play the same game in numerous different ways is very addictive. The only slight negative of this game for some people may be the overall scope and complexity of it. For casual or new gamers it might take a while to figure it all out. The game manual is not overly useful. Trust me, once you spend some time with it and suss out the nuances and possibilites you will be hooked.

This is a game that has tons of content, extensive replayability, makes you think and is generally very entertaining. But the best thing about this game?...You can stop playing it, start again a year later and have a totally new gaming experience.
