Book Description

March 2009
More and more people today have had a glimpse of genuine spiritual awakening, only to see it slip away after a few hours or days. Adyashanti calls this the 'I got it/I lost it' phenomenon, and it perplexes many of his students. For those caught between what he calls 'non-abiding' awakening and the ultimate state of 'abiding' enlightenment, Adyashanti offers The End of Your World¿an in-depth look at the remarkable yet enigmatic process of spiritual awakening. With straight talk and penetrating insight, Adyashanti helps readers navigate the pitfalls and cul-de-sacs that 'un-enlighten' us along the journey, including: The trap of meaninglessness: How the ego can 'co-opt' realization for its own purposes: The illusion of superiority that may accompany intense spiritual breakthroughs: The danger of becoming drunk on emptiness. I often ask people who come to me, `Are you ready to lose your world?' Because true awakening will not fit into the world as you imagine it or the self you imagine yourself to be, explains Adyashanti. Covering a range of topics ordinarily kept private between student and teacher, The End of Your World invites you to join Adyashanti for an honest investigation of what you really are and how to live when you discover it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Journey Beyond Spiritual Awakening March 29 2011
The End of Your World by contemporary spiritual teacher Adyashanti is a rare flower among the vast selection of books about spirituality and enlightenment currently available. Most books on spirituality and awakening deal with the process leading up to enlightenment and liberation, but this book goes into considerable detail about the process that is likely to take place after somebody has been through a spiritual awakening. It is perhaps taken for granted by most spiritual seekers that once you're enlightened, everything is all hunky dory, bliss and beauty, but the truth of the matter is that spiritual seekers for the most part know little or nothing about what enlightenment truly is.

With spiritual awakening a new kind of journey begins, and it's a journey into the unknown and the unknowable. For many people, finding oneself in a new kind of paradigm, a new dimension and a new context isn't necessarily all that easy. When the illusion of being a separate individual, a me, an ego, starts to fall away, the fallout is often years or even decades of mental, emotional and spiritual adjustment. It is common to feel very disorientated after going through a spiritual awakening and this isn't made any easier by the fact that for the most part the world knows absolutely nothing about this phenomenon. As Adyashanti says in The End of Your World: "Enlightenment is a destructive process. It has nothing to do with becoming better or being happier. Enlightenment is the crumbling away of untruth. It's seeing through the facade of pretence. It's the complete eradication of everything we imagined to be true."

It is obvious that this is a book that's written from a place of first-hand experience, deep understanding and rare intelligence.

Clear and concise. This is the caliber of book that you keep on hand and open regularly at random pages to keep reminding yourself of the way forward. Don't hesitate. The value is uncountably higher than the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Guide July 29 2013
Adyashanti has become an excellent guide for those in the process of awakening. Not as a how to but as a what then.

I ended up writing 8 articles about some of the content of this book. Accepting our humanness in the light of our cosmic nature, for example. He also explores abiding vs non-abiding awakening, the trap of meaninglessness (when the old has fallen away but the new not yet known), journaling, grace, and more.

A rich book for those making good progress on the journey.

I had no idea how deep this book would be. I read it before a 7 day silent retreat led by Adyashanti and am so happy it jumped out at me because it gave some insight on what "awakening" is all about. It has prepared me for a part of the journey I didn't expect and will be a delight to read when I return from the retreat. Having said that it is not a book I would have at my bedside for every day inspiration. It is more about living the truth deeply if in fact that is where your intuition is pulling you...

5.0 out of 5 stars simply truth May 12 2014
By Dolkar
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There's nothing here to intellectually argue with or to believe or not believe. Simply pointers to one's own truth. Piercing arrows into one's own heart. Simple clarity and truth which can bring an enormous sense of insight and relief. Precious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dive into the Stillness with Adyashanti Nov. 7 2012
By Seva
Adyashanti is currently my favorite author. Not only because his writing is eloquent, speaks the truth and is easy to read, but because of his obvious experience of the Stillness. I just have to pick up the book and read a few sentences and it seems as if I have been meditating with him for hours.

If you like his writing, also try reading "Chit Happens" by Narain Ishaya.
