Product Description

Review

"The book thus succeeds in presenting a comprehensive overview of endocrinology for students of health sciences and of clinical endocrinology. It is a concise guide as well as a revision aid. Practicing clinicians also will enjoy dipping into the book from time to time for refreshing knowledge." (J.Trop.Ped, 2011)

From the Back Cover

The Endocrine System at a Glance provides a highly illustrated and unambiguous introduction to the basic principles and mechanisms of endocrinology and the key endocrine organs, followed by sections on reproductive and metabolic endocrinology. Clinical scenarios contextualise the basic science and illustrate how endocrine conditions present, are diagnosed, and are treated on the wards.

This third edition:

  • Includes new material on basic diagnostic tests used in the diagnosis of endocrine disorders
  • Features new material on cancer and endocrinology
  • Includes MCQs for each chapter

The Endocrine System at a Glance is ideal for all medical students studying endocrinology and revising for final exams, as well as preparing for clinical attachments. The book is also suitable for those training in allied health professions and nurses specialising in endocrinology.

I'm a medical student who used this book extensively for the endocrinology block. And I must say for a subject I was having a hard time with, this book rocked my world ! Short, sweet, lots of diagrams (great if you're a visual learner), and included clinical examples. This book made the subject less overwhelming and I was able to participate in my classes way better thanks to it. Now keep in mind, it is the basics. But for the price, and for someone who didn't know much in endocrinology, this book was an excellent and smart buy. I cannot emphasize enough how great this book was. And I bought Basic and Clinical Endocrinology by Greenspan first and found it too overwhelming and complicated for my level. So do yourself a favour and save some tears and money, and buy this book first. I hope this was helpful.

Book was a good review and could be used for first time learning as well. Nice to have for reference.

Excellent for those interested in human biology and/or health June 11 2014

This book epitomizes "a picture is worth a thousand words". I delightfully portrays many pathways and structures that can otherwise be tough to remember, for the student of human biology and health. Frankly, I would recommend it for anyone who is curious about how the body works, as well for scientists who are more feel endocrinology should be part of their area of study.
