The best cake decorating book EVER!,
By Cake Guru (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Essential Guide to Cake Decorating (Paperback)
I'm a professional chef who specializes in cakes. I own many books about cake decorating (and food in general), but this one really is an essential. I assure you that, no matter what your skill level, this book is a must have and you will continue to flip through it years after your initial purchase. It's affordable, well written, has great photos, step by step instructions, and sparked all kinds of ideas in me when I first bought it several years ago. I've purchased many cake books since and none have been able to replace this one as my favourite. If you're not sure which book to buy, let me help you - this is the one. Enjoy!

A must for any culinary book collection,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Essential Guide to Cake Decorating (Paperback)
Having offered to host a friends wedding I was suddenly struck with the idea that you can't have a wedding without a wedding cake and so hurried off to my local bookshop to find a "How To Do It" book. After sifting through many manuals that looked as boring as they could possibly make them...I found this book. The techniques and explanations seemed too good to be true, simple, easy to understand and I thought how easy it all looked. Armed with my new book and several pounds of icing sugar I began to fiddle with sugar paste and, believe it or not, flowers came to life in my hands and in under a week I'd crafted over 200 flowers to make a huge cascading sugar bouquet to cover a wedding cake that even blows me away! I have since had four commissioned cakes and am totally hooked on making sugar flowers. Once you have mastered this technique (and have all the recipes in the book which should be enough for anyone) all you need to progress is your own imagination. There isn't another book that even tempts me, I have everything I need to know about cake decorating in this one book. A very worthwhile purchase.

A MUST!!,
By Tenia Leyton (Hollywood, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Essential Guide to Cake Decorating (Paperback)
This is a must for anyone that is starting out in cake decorating and needs any inspiration or ideas. Once someone has the basic knowledge of decorating, anything in the book can be accomplished or adapted to something applicable. The full color photos and explanations are great, although it takes a bit of getting use to in the English/British "vernaculur" that it is written. It once again proves that the English have taken cake decorating to an art form and us Yanks really need to step up to the plate.
