1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing Aug 8 2010
By C
Format:Paperback
I looked forward to the nutritional analysis but was totally disappointed by the obvious errors in it. I flipped thorugh this book and got excited by the recipes especially seed cheese rather than nut cheese. the problem is that my tastebuds do not like anything I have made in this book. there is a reason most people made cultured cheese out of nuts rather than seeds, sunflower seeds are very bitter in cheese. I can't comment on any of the desserts but the entrees have all been disasters. the spinach pie either requires more instruction or it is meant to be 3/4 nut crust 1/4 spinach. the shepards pie is extremely high in salt even when i had originally cut out 1/2 of all sources, I ended up throwing it all away. I found it needed more instruction on all the recipes because they didn't work, either that or they just aren't good. I just found this book to be poor in comparison to other raw books. on a positive note, the book provides some neat ways to use sprouts rather than just throwing them in your salad or on soup. it also includes new ideas for smoothies. oh, one awesome recipe is the pine nut granola.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Raw Recipe Book!!!! Aug 9 2010
By Pearl - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have been dabbling here and there with a rawfood lifestyle and I bought a stack of books to get me started. By far this book is the easiest to follow, most colorful, and they have great recipes that have turned out exactly as explained. I made a great recipe out of this book which I took to two potlucks (raw and a normal meat eater) and a lot of people raved about it. From appetizers to salads, burgers, breads, meals, and desserts this is a great source. Also, one final yet critical thing I like that the authors do is tell you exactly how long and the necessary temperature to have things in the dehydrator which is a common mistake I have discovered many people make in books and on youtube - they leave it out. All in all, this book is an absolute MUST HAVE for a new raw foodie or a seasoned raw foodist. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book Feb 20 2011
By Dr. Marion Rollings - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is a worthwhile investment. I have plenty of raw and living food books, but this one is incredibly good. Very user friendly--explains things clearly and in enough detail for newbies yet provides plenty of easy, healthy recipes for those with more experience. I have made at least 4 things from it and I have only had the book for a week. It has no photos, but is one of those rare cook books that is really fine without them. In fact, I don't think photos would add much. The recipes are not complicated but very flavorful. The raw pumpkin butter is delicious, the almond-garlic pate goes great on the Essene bread. There is a nice section on sprouting and fermented foods. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this book April 21 2011

I am new to the raw food diet and after looking at several books this is it. Begin here all you fellow newbies you won't be unsatisfied. Why can't they all be this simple? I have fixed many of the recipes now and the kids, hubby, and I all enjoyed them. It has hardly hit the self for more than an hour or two. Yeah, there are a few I will approach with a bit of a quizzical eye and may wait until I am a bit more bold, but so far so they have all been winners.

Also I like the layout of the introduction to raw food the idea that you shouldn't be afraid, all us non vegans, to use butter, milk, or even a bit of honey in a few recipes. It is written from a vegan perspective but with a bit of wonderful balance too. Also, each recipe offers several options for those of us that may not have an item or two on the shelf, substitutions are a beautiful thing IMO. Five stars for usefulness, recipes, variety, ease of use, reference charts and tables, and the binding being easy to spot on my shelf, when it gets there. lol
