1.0 out of 5 stars The Lame... Snore...zzz... July 25 2010
Format:Hardcover
What an awful disappointment. Here's the plot in a nutshell, without giving away any spoilers (although it is hard to spoil something that is already rotten and a real stinker).

Some guy (whom we don't care about) goes back to some town he grew up in - which happens to have some major native Americans vs. non natives issues - similar to say the real life problems in Caledonia Ontario. He goes back there because his ex girlfriend has died and he is named... the executor... of her will or estate or whatever. He hasn't spoken to his dead girlfriend or seen her for like I dunno a dozen years. The guy plays detective to unravel a lame conspiracy involving two dimensional characters we don't care about and finds out who killed his ex and why he was asked to be executor. You find out the "hero" is a loser criminal himself who did things he regrets, and I guess you're supposed to feel sorry for him? He also cheats on his current girlfriend with a butch female Indian crime boss for... some reason... huh..

If you are into the new vertigo crime line, this book will leave you disappointed beyond belief. Unless you live on a reserve and might find this interesting - avoid this book. If you want something similar to this story but much better written pick up "Filthy Rich". So far the best entry into the vertigo crime line is "Dark entries" by far. The worst is "The Bronx kill" worst book probably ever written (worse than "the executor", if that's even possible). "Area 10" ain't bad.

Hope this review helped. I don't normally write reviews - but I didn't want people to waste money on this book or "the bronx kill" like I did.

3.0 out of 5 stars The best thing about this is the artwork Nov 10 2010
By N. Durham - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Executor, one of the "graphic mysteries" from the Vertigo Crime line, revolves around former NHL enforcer Joe, who finds himself going back to his decrepit home town when his high school girlfriend is found dead with him named as the executor of her will. What Joe uncovers is that her death was no accident, and that the town's buried secrets are rising upwards, and that no one may escape. While The Executor is fairly compelling, writer Jon Evans' dialogue is stale, and the motivations and characterizations of many of the characters, villains and victims alike, feel simply half-hearted. That being said, the artwork of Andrea Mutti is wonderful, and may very well be the best to be found in any of these Vertigo Crime books yet. All in all, The Executor isn't bad, but there isn't anything here other than the artwork that makes it really worth recommending.
2.0 out of 5 stars Good Artwork, Weak Story Jun 25 2011

This is not one of my favorite of the Vertigo Crime imprints. The story is just a touch strange the characters somewhat flat, which makes it a slog even for a smallish work.

5.0 out of 5 stars These Vertigo Books are awesome May 18 2011

Book is just outright creepy. Without doubt I have never read a book where I was so looking forward to the demise of the evil. Pick it up a long with the rest of Vertigo.
