About the Author

Dr Michael Mosley is a British journalist, scientist, producer and TV presenter. His Horizon Programme, Eat, Fast, Live Longer, had a phenomenal global response when it was broadcast on BBC Two in August. Mimi Spencer is a journalist and author. A feature-writer and columnist for titles including the Mail, the Evening Standard, the Guardian, the Spectator, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, and Observer Food Monthly. She is the author of 101 Things To Do Before You Diet (Transworld 2010).

easy ,quick read. a very doable way to eat -mondays and thursdays are my chosen fast days.i am a strict vegan and this is a perfect fit just to practice the discipline of semi fasting . i select fruit for breakfast and then salad and steamed vegetables and beans/legumes for my dinner.the book is well laid out with several fast day meal ideas-not specifically vegan options but easy enough to do with legumes /beans for protein choices. i would highly recommend the fast diet book!

If you've seen the Horizon documentary, this adds a little more detail - but not a lot.

It's reasonably well written. It clarifies the 5:2 diet which was only briefly mentioned in the documentary. It consists of five normal days a week, and 2 non-consecutive days eating a calorie restricted diet of 500 cal (women) or 600 cal (men). There's a summary of the science behind the diet, and some useful suggestions for people following the diet. (There's also some suggested recipes for the fasting days - which weren't to my taste).

As I'd already been following alternate day fasting for four months when I got this book, it was a little disappointing: I'd already established that intermittent fasting diets work well for me, and was looking for more hard science. In this respect it didn't add enough new content to the documentary. However, I don't regret having bought the book - if only so that I can lend it to people who didn't see the documentary.

An easy to follow diet that is extremely effective. Since we started the diet in mid April (17 weeks ago) my wife has lost 13 lbs and I have lost 23 lbs and reduced my trouser waist size from 42 inch to 38 inch. WOW!. The authors include easy to follow daily menus and some basic recipies but I would recommend buying the accompanying cookbook. Our health statistics have also improved. The important aspect of this diet is that you do not feel deprived on you fast days because you know that tomorrow you can eat pizza and ice cream and still lose weight and inches.

I have been following this diet for a couple of weeks with great results. Extra pounds have been slowly accumulating over the past few years and it has been impossible to shed them. The 500 calories days are easy but if you don't like vegetables it might be hard to stay in the restricted calories without feeling deprived. The fact that it is only 2 days a week will help. I love it but it might not be for everyone.

If you didn't get to see the Horizon tv program, this book gives you all the necessary info. This diet really works well for me. I love it that it is about better health as well as losing weight. My only complaint would be that it took so long to get here to Canada.
