This book was fantastic! It gave me a real life, honest, human look at not only what happens on the ice but how one man's career affected players, coaches, fans, his family and himself. The first chapter called "Holding On" describes the difficulty saying goodbye to a 30 yr. career and dropping that puck one last time to start his last game ( the Flyers vs. the Rangers:winner goes to the play-offs! )In between it's full of personal stories, major games that Fraser refereed, his love of family and faith, an insider's look from ice level at the game he obviously loves. The last chapter titled "Letting Go" takes us back to that last game and not only describes the game as if you were sitting there watching it but deals with the difficulty of letting go of a career that in some ways defines you as a person. It is touching,(the Theoren Fleury chapter) funny ( the Tiger Williams Story), controversial (describes the politics of the job) and insightful ... from the early years with rookie superstars ( Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman,Crosby ) to the demands of the job. Once I started it I could not put it down. Great job Fraser and you will be sorely missed!

Good book for those who like sports. Not only tells stories about reffing, but about experiences with other players and the life of a ref.

Take a trip through the NHL teams, players, coaches, arenas and cities as Kerry Fraser looks back on an outstanding career as an NHL referee. Well written and thought-out, Fraser's book captures the essence of what it takes to be a referee in the hard-hitting, fast game of hockey. As much a travelogue and history book as a biography, "The Final Call" delivers the goods with emotion, humour and a personal touch. I laughed, I cried, I read out passages to my friends and family. Get this book. You won't be disappointed.
