The Final Curtsey,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Final Curtsey: The Autobiography of Margaret Rhodes, First Cousin of the Queen and Niece of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (Hardcover)
Although I consider myself up-to-date on the Royal family, I must admit I knew nothing of Margaret Rhodes. I found the book very interesting and at times, it made me laugh out loud. And there were times, like the depiction of "The Final Curtsey", that I found very moving. It is one of those books that I hated to finish, I enjoyed it so much.

A delightful read!,
This review is from: The Final Curtsey: The Autobiography of Margaret Rhodes, First Cousin of the Queen and Niece of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (Hardcover)
Margaret Rhodes delights with her account of a most unique life. She also generously opens an endearing window on the private lives of public figures, humanizing them in the process. Part private memoir, part social history, it actually helped me understand my parents' perspective on life better, they having lived through many of the same time periods of war and peace, ration and plenty. I would love to see this memoir adapted for television!Beyond the actual 'stories' recounted in the book, it is interesting to see the historical and emotional lineage that impacts each generation and shapes their lives, for as long as they conform to its preset delineations. The combination of innocence and sophistication, fun and formality, frugality and lavishness, love of nature and duty to destiny, and above all, a firm back bone to deal with whatever challenge is presented....it's all here in this admirable lady and the company she keeps.

Despite the cover photo and double entendre of the title this is a pro monarchist diatribe which supports an outdated system- a complete waste of time and money, especially when expecting something much more racy.
