"Great Visit To An Old Friend", Jan 24 2012
By John Mercier - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The First Mountain Man Preachers Assault (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read 13 stories on "The Preacher", however I have not read one in just over four years. So it was great to visit an old friend. The author, William W. Johnstone, has a vast background in writing stories of the wild West, but he also has an awesome ability to bring the reader into the mind of his characters. It's exciting and at the same time refreshing to be along with Preacher on a new adventure. This story is about good vs. evil in it's purest form.
In this story, Preacher has two new friends along with him, Casey and Lorenzo, who he befriended in St. Louis. Oh yeah, his closest friends, his dog, Dog, and his horse, Horse, are with him too. Preacher don't waste a lot of time on names. They are on their way West when Preacher is asked to escort a freight wagon train to Santa Fe. That's when the excitement starts and doesn't end even when they get to Santa Fe. Of course being on such a dangerous trail, they all don't make it. Yes, there is romance involved in this story too. So clean your pistol and rifle and saddle up your horse and enjoy the excitment and adventure of this ride.

One of my favorite Preacher stories!, Oct 5 2011
By Flannery Kneel - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The First Mountain Man Preachers Assault (Mass Market Paperback)
In Independence, Missouri, a brawl ensues inside the saloon where Lorenzo, Preacher, and Casey are. The whole town is after the trio, but Roland Bartlett leads them to safety. When Roland's father, Leeman discovers Preacher is one of the three, he offers him a job to help lead his wagon train southwest to Santa Fe. Preacher and his friends take Leeman up on his employment offer and the wagon train sets off! At first the trail ride begins without a hitch, but their luck suddenly turns disastrous and seems to go from bad to worse all the way to Sante Fe. Casey has been captured by an evil outlaw, Garity, but Preacher, the love struck Roland, and what's left of the wagon train are hot on their trail! Outlaw ambushes, Indian raids, and being tracked by a mysterious monster lurking in the dark; "Preacher's Assault," is a thrilling Johnstone novel!
