Everyone in North America should read this book. We won't be becoming complete vegetarians or vegans. It's too bad we all focus on labels so much! We WILL, however, drastically be reducing the amount of meat and dairy we consume. It need not be a staple in our diet but more of a treat. If you take anything away from this book whether you believe the arguments Robbins presents or not, at the very least know where your food comes from!

All other reviews are very accurate - this book directs one toward a healthier, plant-based diet through very persuasive and scientifically-based arguments. My only complaint is that sometimes it is TOO persuasive. I found that far too much of the book was dedicated for relaying statistics and reason for why this way of eating trumps over the standard American one. If I didn't believe this already, I wouldn't have read the book. I was much more interested in HOW to eat (which food groups he believed were more important than others) than WHY. Also I don't agree with the philosophy that any and all amounts of meat are so harmful - I wish he had more in the way of differentiating statistics for things like white and dark meat. Criticism aside, the book is definitely worth reading, particularly if you are new to nutrition and/or vegetarianism. I would also like to recommend The China Study. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful

It seems like eons ago when I read Diet for a New America for the first time. That book set my feet on the path to compassionate eating. The Food Revolution gives a good 'shot in the arm' to help stay on the path. The Food Revolution does not go into the same depth that Diet for a New America does regarding the horrors of factory farming, but does have some updates to how our food is tampered with and manipulated. In a world where we it is hard to not feel powerless, John Robbins stands as a cheerleader for the small, yet meaningful, personal decisions we make on a daily basis towards common sense and compassion. I recommend this book: it is an easy read in Mr. Robbins' warm and personal style, and full of great information. 15 of 18 people found the following review helpful

This is an excellent book. With statistics from around the world it shows you what the truth is about dairy, animal protein and diseases like osteoporosis. It also goes through the recent diet fads and with factual information points out what is incorrect. It talks about the specific politics behind food. Very important book.
