An exquisite film,

This review is from: The French Lieutenant's Woman (DVD)
Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons, and a screenplay by Harold Pinter, what more could one ask for? This movie is the ultimate telling of on-set romance, with the actor characters perhaps overdoing the Method and mildly mimicking their characters' trajectories. The film-within-a-film part of the tale is entertaining on its own merits as a period drama, but also comments astutely on Victorian mores with regard to varying standards for female and male morality. Intelligent and entertaining.
