Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Do you know anyone who hasn't seen this movie? A box-office smash when released in 1993, this spectacular update of the popular 1960s TV series stars Harrison Ford as a surgeon wrongly accused of the murder of his wife. He escapes from a prison transport bus (in one of the most spectacular stunt-action sequences ever filmed) and embarks on a frantic quest for the true killer's identity, while a tenacious U.S. marshal (Tommy Lee Jones, in an Oscar-winning role) remains hot on his trail. Director Andrew Davis hit the big time with this expert display of polished style and escalating suspense, but it's the antagonistic chemistry between Jones and Ford that keeps this thriller cooking to the very end. In roles that seem custom-fit to their screen personas, the two stars maintain a sharply human focus to the grand-scale manhunt, and the intelligent screenplay never resorts to convenient escapes or narrative shortcuts. Equally effective as a thriller and a character study, The Fugitive is a Hollywood blockbuster that truly deserves its ongoing popularity. --Jeff Shannon

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fugitive--Great Remake of The TV Series!, Feb 6 2006
By
Christopher Jackson (Halifax, Nova Scotia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Fugitive (Widescreen) (DVD)
Based on the famous television series of the same name starring the late David Janssen, The Fugitive tells the tale of Dr. Richard Kimble Harrison Ford), a man convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of his wife (Sela Ward). When the bus taking him to prison collides with an incoming train, the innocent doctor escapes custody and sets on his search for the One-Armed Man whom he fought with after discovering his dying wife. Hot on his trail is U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) who, while trying to capture him, looks into Kimble's theory of the One-Armed Man. Along the way they stumble upon a conspiracy involving one of Dr. Kimble's colleagues and a new liver drug. Of course, you all know by now that the movie as well as the TV series were based on the true case of Dr. Sam Sheppard, who was wrongly convicted of killing his wife in 1954 and spent 10 years in prison before finally being cleared on all charges in 1966.

This is a great movie! It has heart-pounding suspense, action and a dramatic finale that will leave you breathless! Harrison Ford is great as Dr. Richard Kimble, evoking memories of the late great David Janssen's performance. Tommy Lee Jones is also very good in his role as U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard (his name was Phillip on the series). In one of the most heart-pounding sequences in the film, Kimble trapped by Gerard at the end of a drain tunnel, does a "Peter Pan" leap into the rapids to escape ! In another scene he barely escapes Gerard's bullets after just making it out of a prison facility as the glass behind the revolving security doors is bullet-proof ! The murder of Dr. Kimble's wife, barely portrayed in the series is played out in graphic detail and is very disturbing. It. is these moments, along with the classic storyline and the excellent performances by the supporting cast (including Jeroen Crabbe, Andreas Katsulas, Joe Pantoliano and Tom Wood) that makes this movie so enjoyable!

As for the DVD itself, the picture is flawless, colours and sound are excellent. The film itself is in Widescreen, a format which is becoming more popular as the choice of film collectors (like myself). The extras in this special edition include the Documentaries : Derailed: Anatomy of A Train Wreck and On The Run With The Fugitive, as well as feature length audio commentary by Tommy Lee Jones and director Andrew Davis. A Theatrical trailer and Cast/Filmmaker Film Highlights round out the extras.

Highly recommended!

This review is from: The Fugitive (Widescreen) (DVD)
this action/thriller/murder mystery is directed By Andrew Davis(Under
Siege)it is intended to be a Harrison Ford vehicle, but the movie is
really owned by tommy Lee Jones.Jones plays a U.S. Marshall on the
trail of a a high profile,respected doctor(Ford)who find himself
accused of the murder of his wife(Sela Ward).Jones brings some great
intensity to role, yet at the same time he manages to be understated.not
an easy task, but Jones is more than equal to the task.this movie is
based The series of the same name from the 60's,but how accurate It is
to its source material is anyones guess.obviously the film has been
updated for contemporary audiences.the movie is quite exciting and fast
paced, with some good suspenseful moments.there's also a few plot twists
to keep you guessing.i rather enjoyed it.for me,The Fugitive is a 4/5

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic action thriller, July 12 2004
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Fugitive (VHS Tape)
What makes "The Fugitive" such a successful and superior film is that it knows what it is: an action/mystery film. It makes no attempt to make itself bigger or more intellectual than it is (as did the American version of "The Vanishing"). Harrison Ford, surprisingly underplaying the role of Dr. Kimball--others might have overworked his grief and angst--turns in a brilliant performance. And the always reliable Tommy Lee Jones does an icy, sparkling job as Kimball's persuer, US Marshal Sam Gerard. So good a performance that he earned a well-deserved Oscar for it.

The other key to the movie's success is Andrew Davis' dazzling direction. He keeps the pace frenetic for a good deal of the film, and the pot is always kept boiling. Close calls and intense chases keep the tension and suspense at fever pitch. "The Fugitive" will endure for a long time as a classic action thriller.
