Book Description

April 1 2010 Lost Gargoyle (Book 2)
What if your best friend was a naughty 400-year-old gargoyle? And what if he just happened to be in terrible danger? It’s not always easy, but thirteen-year-old Katherine Newberry is friends with a gargoyle. His name is Gargoth of Tallus, and he lives in her backyard. Gargoth has lost the only creature on the planet who can help him. Her name is Ambergine, and she’s been his greatest friend for hundreds of years. What Katherine and Gargoth don’t know is that Ambergine is searching for him too. But she is not alone. Gargoth’s greatest enemy is prowling the city, and it’s a race against time to find him first! In this sequel to The Gargoyle in My Yard (2009), The Gargoyle Overhead provides the historical backstory to Gargoth’s life, and further explores themes of friendship, courage and loneliness.

Review

Dowding’s protagonists are genuine and interesting, and the balance of autonomy and dependence she gives young Katherine will satisfy both parents and young readers ... I would highly recommend this story to young independent readers with an interest in magic and magical creatures.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read Mar 10 2012
Format:Paperback
Like the first Gargoyle book I had to read the Gargoyle Overhead in one sitting. The story is unique and unpredictable and the characters are realistic and easy to empathize with. Also the writing is simple and elegant, which is a nice change from most books at this level.

Looking forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Gargoyle Feb 26 2012
Format:Paperback
Book #2! Yeah, I can't wait for #3. I love these stories, pipe smoking apple munching gargoyle; love interest; nasty, unscrupulous villain. Wow. I loved it, my kids loved it, their kids loved it, even my 86 year old mother read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gargoyle Overhead is wise and wonderful Oct 15 2011
Format:Paperback
My son and I loved this book just as much as the first one, if not more. The characters are sweet, and their history is fascinating. It has all the cheeky humour and charm of the first book, and so much more. You'll travel to another world, another time and place, and back to Toronto again, all in the company of two gentle, wise gargoyles struggling for their souls, struggling to re-unite, struggling to conquer their fears. Can't wait to read the third book!
