Product Description

What do you do when a 400-year-old gargoyle moves into your backyard? Especially when no one else but you knows he’s ALIVE? Twelve-year-old Kathryn Newberry can tell you all about life with a gargoyle. He’s naughty. He gets people into trouble. He howls at the moon, breaks statues and tramples flowers to bits, all the while making it look like you did it! He likes to throw apple cores and stick his tongue out at people when they aren’t looking. How do you get rid of a gargoyle? Do they help the gargoyle leave for good? If you’re like Kathryn and her parents, after getting to know him, you might really want him to stay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gargoyles 1, Feb 26 2012
This review is from: The Gargoyle in My Yard (Perfect Paperback)
This is a really wonderful book. My older grand-daughters read it to me, they couldn't wait, and my 6 year old grand-daughter loves it so much she bought a gargoyle for her bedroom to protect her from monsters. How cool is that! The book is well written and the story line, linked to the past, is fascinating and really provides great context. It's almost possible to feel a warm, hazy day in an old English churchyard in Bourton-on-the-Water.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gargoyle in My Yard, April 30 2011
This review is from: The Gargoyle in My Yard (Perfect Paperback)
If you think you might want to read about a heartbroken but naughty apple core throwing Gargoyle, then Philippa Dowding's, The Gargoyle in My Yard, is the book for you. It's a charming tale that takes you flying in fancy back to another time and scurrying furtively through the hidden treasure spots of Toronto. Your children will cuddle up tight next to you with all the suspense but then the next minute you will all be squealing with laughter. They might pester you with far too many questions though. Who's the man in the hat? Can I learn to speak gargoyle? And why can't he fly? It's the kind of book you will want to give to all your neighbours and you will wish you had had it yourself to read before you had ever met a Gargoyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super book!, Sep 15 2011

The characters are believable and endearing, enough so that you really want gargoyles to be alive once you've put down the book and gone for a walk past the local church!

We loved the gargoyle books so much that we bought extra copies for the kids' classrooms' libraries, the school library and for our friends and cousins. We can't wait for the story to continue into a third book. Thank you, Ms. Dowding.

I bought six copies of the book as gifts for children last Christmas. They all loved it and told me they couldn't put it down. I will be buying the sequel for them as a surprise. Very imaginative.
