Just as I was about to embark on my first recipe with this cookbook my waffle maker died. With the batter already prepared for some Banana-Fofana-Walnut Waffles, I persevered and made pancakes. To my pleasant surprise, the recipe performed perfectly as pancakes, no alterations required!

I chose that particular recipe, as I was in the midst of a sugar-free challenge, and this option was sweetened only with bananas. That is what I love so much about The Global Vegan Waffle Cookbook, there are so many options ...

Craving savory? Try the Caramelized Onion and Garlic Waffles. Need some wintertime comfort food? Whip up the Chai Spice Waffles. Is it time for an ice cream sundae? Those Dark Chocolate Cake Waffles can be ready in minutes. Are you a bread-baking fanatic? Don't pass up the many yeast-raised waffle recipes, such as the Sweet Yeast-Raised Waffles. I was never into waffles since it seemed too much hassle to make. But on a whim I signed up for the Global Vegan Waffle party. I was sent a couple of recipes to get me started and i have been hooked since.

I now use this book for get-togethers thanks to the detailed step-by-step instructions that are in the book on how to do that. I make some toppings myself but my friends also get into the fun. I will either have them make a topping from the book or have them bring two readymade toppings each for the party - some have been quite creative recently like crushed ginger cookies, melted belgian chocolate with hazelnut crumbles,mango chutney, jelly beans, exotic jams and even edible underwear which will never be forgotten.

Waffles are now something that i make for a nice breakfast on a lazy day and i have even started making it for dinner - mostly the savory ones like "some awesome samosa waffles" or "caremelized onion & garlic waffles" but sometimes the really sweet ones like "cinnamon-raison" and i'll make "cinnamon cream cheese" for the topping which serve as dinner and dessert all wrapped up in one.

I've also gotten into pairing my waffles with drinks. I am now considered the waffle queen although i never intended that. It is just something that i really found myself getting a kick out of - thanks to this book. I'm also glad that the recipes are healthy considering i am really into making them a lot!

As for the hassle, the recipes are quick and easy and i found that after making waffles a few times i dont overestimate how much dough i need per waffle so i no longer spill it all over the sides.

I always thought of waffles as a relatively bland breakfast food - maybe jazzed up a little with blueberries or chocolate chips, but this book has really expanded my waffle horizons. Savory waffles - who'd have thought this "breakfast" food had broader horizons! My husband was dubious at first and announced he was not eating any of the Some Awesome Samosa Waffles I was cooking that evening. But the great smells coming from the kitchen convinced him to just try a bite. And that was all it took! We have since tried other savory recipes in the book, all with great success!

I love the diversity of the recipes, but I also appreciate all the vegan waffle cooking tips and helpful hints. My very first foray into vegan waffle making ended up in a destroyed waffle maker - if only I'd had Dave's excellent guidance on oiling the iron thoroughly back then, it may have saved that iron.

I encourage you try these delicious and cruelty-free waffle recipes. Experience waffle makers and rank beginners alike will be able to use and enjoy this book.
